(JTA) — Liberal Jewish allies of the Anti-Defamation League are coming to its defense after more than 150 progressive groups signed an open letter calling for the ADL to be excluded from social justice coalitions.
The effort, called Drop The ADL, criticizes the ADL’s work with police forces across the country as well as its support of Israel. Spearheaded by a coalition of pro-Palestinian and left-wing groups that disapprove of the ADL’s ties to law enforcement, the campaign follows earlier left-wing pushes against the Jewish anti-bigotry group.

The campaign comes on the heels of a high-profile ad boycott of Facebook spearheaded by the ADL, NAACP and other civil rights groups. The boycott recruited more than 1,000 companies, including a range of marquee brand names, to pause advertising on the social media giant for at least a month to protest its inaction on hate speech.
The signatories to the anti-ADL campaign say that kind of effort, as well as local anti-bias work that the ADL supports, should not cause progressives to forgive more problematic aspects of the group’s record.
“Even though the ADL is integrated into community work on a range of issues, it has a history and ongoing pattern of attacking social justice movements led by communities of color, queer people, immigrants, Muslims, Arabs, and other marginalized groups, while aligning itself with police, right-wing leaders, and perpetrators of state violence,” the open letter says. “More disturbing, it has often conducted those attacks under the banner of ‘civil rights.’”

The list of 100 signatories includes an array of progressive groups, such as the Democratic Socialists of America, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights, the Movement for Black Lives, Jewish Voice for Peace and Jews for Racial and Economic Justice. Some have previously criticized the ADL, while others are joining in after a summer in which criticism of racial injustice in law enforcement has taken center stage.
Multiple civil rights groups that have worked with the ADL have not commented on the boycott campaign, including the NAACP, which partnered on the Facebook boycott but has not responded to a request for comment. UnidosUS, an American Latino advocacy group that announced a partnership last year with the ADL on reporting hate crimes, also declined to comment.

But liberal Jewish organizations that have worked with the ADL are publicly defending its record as a Jewish civil rights organization with a long track record of standing up for marginalized communities.
“This smear campaign takes us in the opposite direction of where we need to go,” Mark Hetfield, CEO of the Jewish refugee aid group HIAS, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
“HIAS has been closely working with ADL for over 100 years and we look forward to working with them for the next 100 years fighting hate and welcoming refugees,” Hetfield wrote. “ADL has long been one of HIAS’ closest and most valued partners and allies in the United States as well as Israel. HIAS stands with ADL.”

Jeremy Ben-Ami, president of the liberal Israel lobby J Street, also came out against the boycott campaign.
“One can disagree with @ADL over Israel policy — and I often do — esp. labeling critics of Israeli policy antisemitic, yet appreciate their stand on travel ban and refugees + track record on civil rights,” Ben-Ami tweeted Monday. “I favor engaging not boycotting those with whom we disagree.”

One can disagree with @adl over Israel policy - and I often do - esp. labeling critics of Israeli policy antisemitic, yet appreciate their stand on travel ban and refugees + track record on civil rights. I favor engaging not boycotting those with whom we disagree.

In a statement, the ADL called the campaign an attempt by anti-Israel groups to divide a civil rights coalition.

“These are many of the same groups who have been pushing an anti-Israel agenda for years,” the statement said. “It says more about them than about us that at this moment of great unity around equal justice for all, they would launch this effort against one of the largest and oldest Jewish organizations in America. They will do nothing to stop the important work we do every single day, in close partnership with many prominent civil rights groups, to stop the defamation of the Jewish people, and to secure justice and fair treatment to all.”

The ADL, which historically has aimed to oppose anti-Semitism and bigotry across the political spectrum, has previously been a target of criticism from groups on the left and right. In 2018, several of the groups behind the current anti-ADL effort lobbied Starbucks to drop the ADL from its high-profile anti-bias training.

Groups on the right, meanwhile, say the ADL focuses too much on right-wing extremism while giving a pass to anti-Semitism on the left. The Zionist Organization of America, a right-wing group, has issued a ream of news releases attacking the ADL for what it sees as going soft on opponents of Israel.

The progressives’ campaign draws on the ADL’s support for Israel, as well as its work with police forces, which includes a broad anti-bias training program as well as counterterrorism seminars and delegations to Israel. In many cases, it cites incidents that occurred under the ADL’s previous national director, Abraham Foxman, who stepped down in 2015.

The campaign also renews criticism that the ADL spied on Muslim and other civil society groups in the 1990s. In 1999, the ADL settled a class-action suit over the spying.

Under its current CEO, Jonathan Greenblatt, the organization has been a frequent critic of President Donald Trump and many of his statements and policies regarding Muslims, immigrants and other marginalized groups. Its research on and reporting of anti-Semitic incidents and white supremacist activity have been widely cited by those seeking to sound the alarm over rising extremism in the United States.

Incredible; irony so thick, you could pour it on pancakes. It was only a matter of time till the ouroboros of idpol came chomping back down again.

Speaking of anti-hate groups being friendly with the police, if the police get defunded, who will the hate-crime hoaxers draw into their drama?

But, seriously, libs are obsessed with hate crimes and like to feed their persecution complex by claiming rednecks are constantly trying to kill minorities. Who's supposed to investigate hate crimes if there are no police? And it figures that a Jewish group is friendly with the police since Jews are painfully aware of what a lawless hellscape means for them, and they're rarely stupid enough to antagonize police into killing them.

Given their opinions on this matter I would wager there are very few jews in those groups, maybe a couple of cucks used as marketing and shields from criticism.

A shame progressives aren't calling to boycott the ADL for the very reason of its founding: to protect the legacy of a convicted rapist.

Looks like Saturn's having a kosher dinner with the kids this time.

What I'm curious about is who will win this shitshow? The ADL and the liberal establishment have the money and the police ties, but the people in the ADL who actually support Israel and aren't in it to bash the fash are comprised of literal Boomers who likely knew actual Holocaust survivors in their younger days, Jewish Gen X'ers who trend liberal but not far left, and Bari Weiss.

I'd say a lot of the younger and lower-ranked people in the ADL are either goyim who are part of certain key groups in the Progressive Stack or middle-class college commies who are ethnically Ashkenazim but are otherwise the same as their self-hating White peers who love anarchism and communism and actively hate Israel while supporting notoriously antisemitic and anti-Zionist ideologies and movements like black supremacy, Maoism, anarcho-communism, anti-theism, and Palestinian nationalism.

I'm wondering if the liberal and generally pro-Israel upper ranks of the ADL can leverage their connections to purge the younger lower ranks or if they're outnumbered too badly and the ADL implodes before they can fire enough of the Woke Leftist Millennials and Early Zoomers within the organization.

The SPLC is similarly well-funded and connected to law enforcement and the corporate bigwigs but a lot of the old liberal guard were still ousted by the younger hard leftists with Morris Dees becoming persona non grata alongside Julian Cohen and Mark Potok becoming a figurehead at best assuming he wasn't also ousted as well.

The ADL's key advantage is the more specific focus on antisemitism compared to the SPLC and the fact that there are probably Israeli politicians who still back the ADL because of the mostly Zionist Boomer and Gen X old guard in the upper-level management and because the ADL has not alienated the far more strategically important AIPAC.

As long as the ADL doesn't fully oust their old leadership and break ties with AIPAC or the mostly Christian conservative factions within the GOP who support AIPAC and feverently back Israel's right to exist, I think the ADL can probably avoid being completely taken over by the younger turbo-woke leftists and if anything, effectively mount a counter-offensive against the Woke Left.

Honestly, I would not be surprised if this leads to a schism within the ADL and the more liberal but not leftist wing of the ADL that supports Israel ending up begrudgingly forming an alliance with the anti-Woke Left groups for the same reason that a lot of the TERF's and the Alt-Right got into an uneasy alliance or why even more TERF's got into a somewhat less uneasy alliance with the Farms with a good portion of them becoming Kiwis.

I mean, the same thing happened with Zionist Jews and traditionalist Protestant Christians, and is why AIPAC and a lot of the "Boomer Cons" like Dennis Praeger and Christian neocons will go and gladly back AIPAC and people like Ben Shapiro and why the majority of the "based and red pilled" Zoomer Christians and traditionalists like The Distrbutist and Nick Fuentes are Catholics instead of Protestants (and why so many of them are former atheist skeptics or actual atheists preaching Biblical morals as in the case of the traditionalists)

You'd be surprised how many Jews are members of the Cult of Social Justice instead of Judaism. The only reason their race-grifting there stands out is because the far-right Hasidics and UO types pull the same shit whenever someone accuses them of stuff, so it looks like they're on the same team. They're not once you dig under the surface though. The UO types consider the SJW's no better than they do any goyim, and the SJW's despise the UO's for being far more successful at the baiting. (That said, there's plenty of rich Jews, but they tend to worship at the altar of the Almighty Dollar, same as other rich people, even ones without funny noses.) Nothing new, either. The Jewish editor of the NYT during WW2, almost religiously maintained there was no such thing as a distinct Jewish race and gave the newsroom orders to downplay the Nazis singling out the Jews, telling them to emphasize other racial groups who were affected.

EDIT: The reason you're seeing so much shit go down right now is thanks to the progressive stack shifting in favor of blacks, moving the Jews below them for reasons of wealth and fairer skin, same shit as is happening with the Asians. They're as unhappy about that as you might imagine since until now the only people above them were the Palestinians, who are honestly irrelevant when it comes to power and money in the US.

Woah this is a first.

The article states that the ADL "stands up for marginalized communities", but this is only partially true. The ADL spends every moment it can attacking the white majority so it often coincides with leftist anti-racist (anti-white) values. It doesn't actually care about those groups, they're just a useful tool.

thats easy, Purging them would take maybe one Traincar..

The problem is that the left in general is extremely short-sighted, and they give themselves so much power while they are in control, you see a freak out like 2016 when they realize that they are being shut out. An intelligent group of people wouldn't have given the executive so much power, but we had such a charismatic and well-spoken black man in office! It's like they forget elections are held every four years.

The left sees progress as a natural and irreversible process. If they win today they'll win tomorrow. So they base everything around the idea that they'll continue to gain more and more power while their opponents will only lose power.

So Whig history, then?
