@polonium mentioned doing this too but being upfront was helpful for me.
My profile was basically:
- dating for a relationship only.
- describing my place in life (job, education)
- state that I have no interest in making LGBT the main facet of my identity
- disinterest in drugs
- disinterest in hookups
Don’t state these things like a grumpy asshole, but be clear about it. It scares away a lot of people who will waste your time.
It also helps to not obsess over the apps. I would feel overwhelmed and miserable unless I kept expectations low and notifications off. Even when I was talking to someone, I explained that I was busy and only opening the app once or twice a day. Anyone who couldn’t tolerate that probably didn’t have enough of a life anyway.
