This was mentioned in an episode of Louis once. Rick Crom (a gay comedian) explained that gay men were called faggots because of the sticks but also because they were burned at the stake for being gay in the middle ages.

I can't find anything on it but I was always told that faggotry was a specific type of heresy from a specific reformation/crusade. Essentially faggotry was new heresy and one of the main things at that point was homosexuality but everyone just forgot about the other shit from that period.
 
Serious question if it's alright to ask: Why do you think some people are gay? Is it related to hormones? I don't think all gays have been molested because I've met ones that weren't.

Not gay but I've heard there might be something with hormones. Apparently younger brothers are more likely to be gay but idk if that's just a myth.

Evolutionary the homos likely existed to take care of orphaned children or it was at least something that didn't cause any issues. I imagine being bi would be quite advantageous in that regard as you could chose between reproducing and the permanent uncle/aunt life. I don't remember the exact mechanism but there are some ways something that is beneficial to a family member but not the individual themselves could get passed on. If there is a benefit to having a gay sibling to take care of your kids when you die and the gay gene is in your family, your kids might survive and then pass it on.

Its a perfectly reasonable question with a hella complicated answer involving genetics, hormones and a stack of other biological factors. You are rights in assuming it has nothing to do with molestation though.

Not a myth, Research shows that it is definitely a factor, but not the only factor. Stress during pregnancy is also a factor along with a bunch of others

All these things come together in the womb, they are all prenatal, so upbringing, society etc etc have no bearing on incidence, just on how it is expressed

And these biological factors tend to have correlating biological markers like index finger length, hair patterns and a few others I cant recall off the top of my head but they show that sexual orientation is entirely biological in origin

For me it probably happened the same way my 'tism happened: just born with it. There's a theory that, for a mother who has multiple boys, the youngest is more likely to turn out gay. My sample size of one confirms this.

Might be the development of the brain. Research has been made in studies on pheromone response and gay men had neuron activation when exposed to a testosterone-based derivative like straight men would with an estrogen one. Also, taking evolutionary pressure into account, the "gay uncle" theory has already been mentioned above, where you still support passing along your family's genetics whilst not having children yourself.

To be fair, that's not especially scientific reasoning. My own personal experience has led me to the opposite conclusion for instance, but I also know that there's an infinity of other factors throughout life that make it impossible to know for sure. Granted, I don't think there's any possible way to test whether the molestation theory holds true without some truly despicable John Money behavior and a time machine, since no one could really say for certain that "if this did/didn't happen in the past then I would/wouldn't be gay." I don't believe all gays have been molested/assaulted/raped during their childhood because obviously that's insane and unrealistic, but to say there's absolutely no link based on 'personal experience' seems wrong to me, especially since there is generally proven to be a link between early exposure to porn/sexuality and other development outcomes
