OK, here we go!
Welcome to the CWCki Forums Let's Play of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
Remember, this is a blind LP, I've never played this game before, only its descendants.
We start off with the intro, some stuff about a prophecy and a disembodied voice telling me I've been shipped from Cyrodiil to Morrowind on a prison transport.
The scene then changes to a Dunmer by the name of Jiub waking me up from a nightmare and asking if I'm OK. We're on the aforementioned prison ship. What's my name?
Jiub tells me we've arrived and a guard comes down to bring me up to the deck and tells me to behave. I don't have any weapons, so don't worry, I'm not going to pick a fight with anyone.
This is my stop, Seyda Neen. I front up to another guard and he says something about missing paperwork and needing to identify me properly. I think I have some ID here somewhere...
Once we've established what I look like, it's time to hit the census office. Really hard. With my head.
Now that I've filled out all the paperwork, I'm given my release papers and shooed off to go see some other dude. But before I get too far, the game engine accosts me with a mini tutorial involving daggers, lockpicks and other such things. It takes me three tries to get the little chest on the bookshelf open.
Once I'm done there, I go outside, get a little ring out of a barrel and enter the next building to find Sellus Gravius, Knight Errant of the Imperial Legion (sounds fancy, but he's really just a glorified gopher-type bureaucrat).
SG: Your identification papers, please.
Me: Here you go.
SG: Thank you. Word of your arrival only reached me yesterday. I am Sellius Gravius. But my background is not important. I'm here to welcome you to Morrowind.
Me: Why don't you tell me about your background anyway?
SG: I'm a Knight Errant of the Imperial Legion. That's all you need to know.
Me: Okay. So this is Morrowind?
SG: (speaking to me like I might be a slow-in-da-mind) Yes, you're in Morrowind. I don't know why you're here, or why you were released from prison and shipped here, but your authorization comes directly from Emperor Uriel Septim VII himself, and I don't need to know any more than that. When you leave this office, you're a free man.
Me: Woohoo!
SG: But before you go, I have instructions about your duties. Instructions from the Emperor, so pay careful attention.
Me: Uriel Septim?
SG: *stress sigh* Yes, Uriel Septim is still the emperor. According to my instructions, he has personally authorized your release from prison and your delivery here. It's all very mysterious, but that's the way the Empire works: Silence. Secrecy. Let not the left hand know what the right hand is doing.
Me: So what are my duties, then?
SG: This package came with the news of your arrival. You are to take it to Caius Cossades, in the town of Balmora. Go to the South Wall Cornerclub and ask for Caius Cossades, they'll know where to find him. Serve him as you would serve the Emperor himself. I also have a letter for you, and a disbursal to your name.
So that's that, then. I take my leave of the stuffy Imperial and exit the building into the main drag of Seyda Neen:
I plod over to Arrille's Tradehouse, but it's closed and the door is locked. So I wander around, checking out buildings and talking to people. Eventually a helpful Imperial fellow points me in the right direction and off I go.
There's a stiltstrider service nearby just like the Imperial said, but I'd rather walk, get the lay of the land, pick up some alchemy ingredients and maybe even get into a few fights.
It's not long before I get into my first fight... with a rat. I draw my dagger and give the rodent a few good swipes, take its meat, dispose of the corpse and move on.
After discovering the 'always run' function, I make pretty good time to Balmora, gathering ingredients as I go and making only one detour to check out the entrance to a cavern. Then I happen across an Imperial woman who says she was robbed, but the bandit was apparently very charming and she's fallen for him so will I pretty please go and find him? What say you, audience?
