The chant of “Let’s go, Brandon,” often heard at right-wing rallies lately, always makes me laugh. Not because it’s clever or warm-hearted. No. As intended by the chanters, it is mean-spirited — but also dumb. Why? Because it will be so easy for us to co-opt it and make it our own.

The only “power” in the chant is that it supposedly stands in for a not-safe-for-work insult to the president. When we start chanting it, it loses that power. In an instant.

That’s what President Biden figured out, in half a second, when a caller during a White House event on Christmas Eve tried to insult him.

The BBC reports:

During Friday's event in the South Court Auditorium of the executive mansion, the Bidens spoke with a family from Oregon: Griffin, 11, Hunter, three, Piper, four, Penelope, two, and their father, Jared.
"I assume you're dad," the Democratic president said.
"Hi. Yes sir," replied Jared.
"OK, Dad, what do you want for Christmas?" asked Mr Biden.
"Maybe a quiet night," he replied laughing.

The chuckling president reminded the children to be in bed by nine o'clockotherwise Santa might not show up.
The first lady said: "Have a merry Christmas, have a wonderful Christmas."
Mr Biden told Jared: "I hope you have a wonderful Christmas."
The father replied: "Yeah, I hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas as well. Merry Christmas and let's go, Brandon."
The president replied: "Let's go, Brandon. I agree."
There was silence.

Mr Biden added: "Hey, by the way, are you in Oregon? Where's your home? I think we lost him."
Ha ha! Yep, we lost him!

It just shows that all we have to do is to take up their insipid, mean-spirited chant ourselves. Do that, and it instantly transforms into something positive. All the sting is gone.

Of course, the BBC political reporter — as dense as almost every mainstream political reporter seems to be these days — was unable to recognize Joe’s sense of humor and comic timing. Astonishingly enough, the reporter somehow intuited that Biden was “apparently unaware of the gibe.”

Ha ha. As if. No, Biden is as aware as any political junkie that the caller expected him to be insulted and tongue-tied by the insult. But instead, he took it up. Turned it inside out. Made it a positive. And that’s exactly what all Democrats and allies should do whenever the right tries to insult Biden with their silly chant.

Lets’ go, Biden!

Every one of these articles are massive amounts of cope

The sound of thousands of college students, the usual progressive base, chanting "Fuck Joe Biden" after his dumpster fire Afghanistan withdrawal has really rattled them to their core.

Stealing memes to "reclaim them" is a long leftist tradition, because the left cannot meme. It's scientifically proven.

Also, "reclaiming" the meme won't improve Biden's poll numbers.

And yet here we are with the author and their fellow travelers still looking like the salty kid on the playground who can't think of a good comeback to save their life.

They'll never be able to co-opt it and it's part of the reason why it pisses them off so much.

Left cant meme or usurp memes because they do it under different circumstances, for different goals.

At best, it's from a redditor seeking the approval of others, at worst, it's a highly paid NGO / university group, trying to produce some type of sterile propaganda by committee.

"Let's go Brandon" might not be as funny as your usual right-wing meme that evolved from shitposts, but it's at least an organic reaction to journalists being journalists.

Mr Biden added: "Hey, by the way, are you in Oregon? Where's your home? I think we lost him."
It's pretty chilling that the President of the United States immediately wanted to know where this guy lives after he insulted him.

The amount of leftist coping about this call is amazing. They can't accept that Biden is a laughing-stock, so they've come up with all sorts of bizarre alternative versions of what happened:

a) Biden knew what happened, but said that he should fuck himself as some kind of repartée.
b) Biden was being classy, not like evil Drumpf!!
c) Biden meant some disabled person named Brandon, who nobody mentioned.
d) Biden wisely 'co-opted' the meme by falling for it hook, line and sinker.

And so on.

This article is completely missing the point of the LGB meme, the reason why it sounds positive is because it's based on mocking the scene where an interviewer tried to represent 'Fuck Joe Biden' as 'Let's Go Brandon.' That doesn't make it 'easier to co-opt,' it just means that libs miss the point. The meme is an ironic take on libs and their media trying to 'co-opt' anti-Biden chants by portraying them as positive statements about 'Brandon.'

This article is a massive cope about Biden's reaction to the call, but libs trying to 'reclaim' this are generally lacking in self-awareness.

The Left is that kid you went to middle school with that gave themselves a nickname, and tried so desperately to have it stick.
So.....the left is george costanza? That explains alot tbh

I stand by my statement that biden is eerily similar to smitty from king of the hill. The dementia and appearance is uncanny

I know you linked the whole page, but the whole plot with everyone covering for him and covering up incompetence with senseless destruction feels important enough to mention here.
Indeed it does, especially when smitty is told about it, thinks its all bs and starts claiming it really was him all along and spouting off about doing crazy shit like using rock salt on the field and literally nailing down the sod. I legit wouldn't be surprised to see biden have a smitty moment like that

One news article called "Let's Go Brandon" a slur, which is technically correct, but the issue lies in the fact that the same people calling "Let's Go Brandon" a slur usually reserved the word "slur" for "racist" or "sexist" remarks.

Because it will be so easy for us to co-opt it and make it our own.

Then why haven't you? It's been a few months. Let's see that wit.

When we start chanting it, it loses that power.

The president replied: "Let's go, Brandon. I agree."

Ha ha! Yep, we lost him!

If by "him" you mean Biden, then yes.
