I love it when celebrities think they're invincible and can go around provoking the little people with impunity. The backlash they always get is a wonder to behold.

I think the mistake that comedians often make is that they try to handle social media trolls in the same way that they would do a heckler in a live show, which just doesn't work. In a live show, unless the comedian is completely bombing it usually won't be more than one or two hecklers at a time, and the club will just eject anyone who crosses the line into outright abuse. With social media however, it doesn't matter how eloquent your put-downs are; the trolls can just bombard you non-stop with the foulest abuse imaginable, and even if you get their accounts banned, more trolls will join in at a far faster rate than they can possibly be banned.

Then again, it's not like Twitter or Facebook are anything particularly new at this point, so anyone who can't understand that should just stay the hell away.
