I mean this isn’t really a leftist meme since I don’t see a lot of right wingers arguing pirates were good people. In fact if anything I’ve seen leftists treat pirates as ye olde antifascists or Robin Hood type figures despite pirates typically only keeping stolen wealth for themselves and also being involved in the slave trade, in which they were typically considered even more brutal than professional slave traders.
