Skyrim and Resident Evil 4, along with GTAV, are heavily criticized due to being ported to countless consoles. It's only profitable because the games just need to be ported to the hardware so there's little costs in development, it isn't because people are buying them in droves.

It's also just cherry picking, anyway. For every Skyrim port, you can name ten games that are innovative and unique. Besides, Bethesda released Elder Scrolls Online and are developing the sixth entry in the series. Regardless if it's good or not, you can't point at them and say they're not making anything new.

This also takes a huge leap in logic to assert that translating a game into VR is just simply re-releasing it. Whether or not it's jank as hell, it's still innovative just for trying.

You don't even have to go that far. Individual video games really don't fit into the standard points of competition and innovation since close substitutes do not exist on a practical level: if I decide that Skyrim isn't good enough, I can't find a game that is nearly identical, unlike if I was dissatisfied with the game console itself. The innovation's there, but these dipshits are trying to run on "Bethesda bad" and "ironic" memes to try to argue a strawman.
