My history is a bit off, but the Panthers were reactionary to the troubling race relations in the States in the 60s leading to the 70s. Anti-Communist patriotism was beginning to bubble in the 70s, so the Panthers ran with it as a militia faction for Black supremacy.

1910s-1920s had pretty good Anti-commie factions, surprisingly notable was the 2nd Gen Ku Klux Klan. It's pretty funny that Panthers would prefer communism because White Supremacy would have none of it, endorsing it even though it would be one of the worst choices in African history. Angola and etc. are good examples and hopefully, the Black community won't fully endorse it like psychopaths. Then again, there is a difference between a Black and a Nigger.

I don't think they embraced it, per se. More like being rebels against typical American tradition. Remember that it was considered "treason" to be against the Vietnam War. Tensions then were tough and for good reason.

The peasantry made their own pitchforks anyway, so they weren't fighting against some cartoonish evil lord with what said lord had given them. Conversely, the average iCommie does absolutely give a fuckton of money to a particularly scummy company simply to obtain a status symbol while trying to assert that they shouldn't be expected to even try mitigating their consumerism.
