The most important thing is to make sure you and your loved ones are healthy in mind and body before anything even happens, and the second most important is to have good relations and mutual trust with your neighbors (or a friend or family member does, if you'll be moving to their place when disaster strikes). Also, rednecks are probably some of the less likely people to start raiding because they already have strong communities and the tools and practical know-how to survive.
I agree. They'd also be the ones who would have their communities fortified with lots of redundancy since many of them have military experience, survival skills, and of course the aforementioned lots of high capacity firearms.
Sure there'll be some assholes out to get other people's shit, but I think that's a highly overstated problem compared to dying from infection or illness. It's great to have a couple of rifles on hand and people able to use them, but I'd argue that knowing a nurse and a plumber who can weld a little is much more important. If you live in a big city a gun becomes more important because you'll probably be trying to relocate somewhere more rural in the middle of a mass panic.
