He life got flipped, turned upside down. Having to be obsessively careful about who you trust is exhausting. He let his guard down long enough for Catie to get a foothold, and the rest was history.

It also didn't help that he was talking to a lot of people online in the process of selling the medallions.

I think that last point might have a lot to do with it. He poked his head out of his hole a little with a couple facebook posts after the fire, and the response was a lot of sympathy and charity. He found that he could get legitmate good things by appearing online, so he was very tempted to explore that. He then went through the begging phase, the eBay phase, and the revamped online dating phase.

Nine times out of ten, when you write something polite like "I don't think we're a match" on a dating site, the guy either writes "Fuck you you're too ugly for me anyway bitch" or he sends you dozens more messages trying to change your mind.

Dating sites do not bring out the best in most people, of any gender.

They work well if you are a guy who is capable of being genuine and taking rejection or a girl who is willing to ignore some creepy bullshit. The "creepy" guys send many many times more messages than the normal guys, which makes the whole experience look sketchier than it probably has to be.

Huh, yeah, actually, I don't know. I said "sex" because "bonus round" has been a long-established euphemism of Chris' to refer to sex. But in the context, his wording is almost meaningless.
