Despite a BBC report warning that the Arctic would be ice-free by 2013, this year’s minimum Arctic sea ice extent was actually 26% larger than 2012.
On X, climate realist Tony Heller has highlighted the climate misinformation and disinformation campaigns that far-left corporate media have been waging on the global public.
Of course the latest revelation did not make the headlines anywhere because it doesn’t fit the official narrative
Zero Hedge reports: Heller referenced a 2007 BBC News article titled Arctic summers ice-free ‘by 2013’,” which warned readers of the supposed threat that “latest modeling studies indicate northern polar waters could be ice-free in summers within just 5-6 years.”
The BBC article’s baseless claim was designed to instill climate fears across the public to ram through a radical de-growth climate agenda across the Western world.

Heller then cited NOAA Sea Ice Extent data of the Arctic from Sept. 16, 2012, and Sept. 7, 2024, and found:
This year’s minimum Arctic sea ice extent was 26% larger than 2012. @BBCNews said the Arctic would be ice-free by 2013.”

The extent of sea ice appears to be two-dimensional. Is the volume of ice increasing, or is it just melting and refreezing in a manner that spreads it out over more of the ocean's surface? The IPCC says the ice has thinned:

The proportion of Arctic sea ice at least 5 years old declined from 30% to 2% between 1979 and 2018; over the same period first-year sea ice proportionally increased from approximately 40% to 60–70% (Stroeve and Notz, 2018) (very high confidence) (Sections 3.2.1.1.3 and 3.2.1.1.4). Arctic sea ice has thinned through volume reductions in satellite altimeter retrievals (Laxon et al., 2013; Kwok, 2018), ocean–sea ice reanalyses (Chevallier et al., 2017) and in situ measurements (Renner et al., 2014; Haas et al., 2017) (very high confidence). Data from multiple satellite altimeter missions show declines in Arctic Basin ice thickness from 2000 to 2012 of –0.58 ± 0.07 m per decade (Lindsay and Schweiger, 2015). Integration of data from submarines, moorings, and earlier satellite radar altimeter missions shows ice thickness declined across the central Arctic by 65%, from 3.59 to 1.25 m between 1975 and 2012 (Lindsay and Schweiger, 2015).

It is sort of funny, every prediction they made isn't even close to hitting the mark and yet it was literally 70 degrees in Philly the week after Christmas/new Years.

Like the fact that in fucking Philly you don't need to worry about snow anymore and can sun bathe in late December is insane. At this point the idea of a Christmas sweater is going to be a meme.

But literally every NOAA report is absolutely nonsense. You can find their first findings and it's like total science fiction. Their "best case scenario" is worse than their latest "worst case scenario" on their latest model. These niggas have been overshooting for years.

Oh bro,

Here you have Trump HIMSELF stating due to Arctic heating he wants Greenland and it's a national security issue. And Russia is plowing resource into the Arctic because of the melt.

Believe what you want to believe, but for anyone who has been paying attention....please...

Clickbait site cherry picks data to own the other people cherry picking data, how interesting.

They anticipated and sidestepped the problem of nearly all their predictions being wrong by crafting a theory that, unique to all of "science", has no scenario that disproves it.

Every outcome is considered evidence (hotter/colder, wetter/dryer, more/fewer storms, harsher summers & milder winters, but also harsher winters...), so they're free to make insane scare-tactic predictions and then when each fails to materialize, revise them Soviet-style.

They can't predict tomorrow, but once tomorrow is yesterday they can tell you how inevitable it was in retrospect.
