If it is a forgone conclusion that I will be defeated by the tanks and bombers of the government, and that I am the bloodthirsty, soulless evil they say I am, why are they surprised that I would inflict harm on a soft target I am ideologically opposed too in order to claim some skulls before my inevitable downfall?

Projection, they wouldn't do it themselves, so they can't imagine anyone would do it back to them, the Chuds will just line up to get shot by the military/police, guns are icky. Jonathan Haidt had a great study that showed that American Conservatives and Independents could correctly model opposing political sides views while the American Left was nearly completely incapable of doing so accurately.
