Despite the source of the quote, this is an excellent sentence. I would merely suggest omitting "in its tidied halls," as it is unnecessary, at least to me. That would make it a nearly perfect sentence. I also agree with the general sentiment, although I think I'd have serious disagreement with the specifics.
