So, the gun he was using had to have been illegal?

The only thing known about weapons is that after the police confronted and killed him, his room contained multiple guns. I guess it's possible the guns could have been illegal, possibly modified before hand for better use when shooting.

The Provisional IRA used M60s.

Oh my God.

As far as access to a full auto goes, it is Nevada. Maybe he had cartel contacts.

True. I was thinking that he could have purchased it from over the border, and had it shipped. There's also the possibility that he could've bought it from somewhere on the dark/deep web, but I'd imagine that would be far more expensive than buying it directly from a cartel.

Bumpfire stocks aren't even widely known, and 99% of mass shooters aren't shooting enthusiasts. They most likely don't even know about bumpfire stocks. Even if he did have a bumpfire stock, I really, really doubt he ever practiced with it enough to get THIS proficient with it. Again, most mass shooters aren't gun enthusiasts and don't even train with their guns.

This is something people ignore too when they talk about implementing stricter gun control laws. You bring this up and they shit out some other little excuse and call you the bad guy when you question their knowledge.

Speaking of which, twitter hastag guncontrolnow is full of these people. Of course that guy was already banned or illegally modified. There's already legislation to prevent these things. People will find a way around laws regardless.

So, the gun he was using had to have been illegal?

Seeing as he had a criminal record to begin with, it's 99.9% he bought it illegally.

If it was actually an automatic weapon and he didn't modify a weapon to fire automatically, it's a 99.999999999999999999% chance it was sold on the black market. There are so few legally registered machine guns available for sale that the price is stupidly high, and so are the wait times for the ATF to "process" your paperwork. It can take over a year for them to give you a stamp on a 4-5 page form. In addition to being taxed $200 for the speedy convenience.

Question for those familiar with guns: how easy is it for something like an LMG to just "disappear" out of the army's inventory and into somewhere like the black market or private auctions?
Just buy a surplus weapon and modify it imho. France sold an assload of surplus Minimis about a decade ago, for instance. They should be all over the world by now.

if it actually is an M60. its possible it could have been on the machinegun registry. But, well...the ATF basically gives you a colonoscopy in order to get one transfered to you. not to mention the price.

I cant find an actual M60 on NFA dealers right now, but this could give you at least some of an idea how much it would cost.

That being said my vote is on no fucking way this was a legally obtained firearm. Especially if this guy is from California like ive heard.

This is a dumb question or not asked correctly... NO GUN (unless modified "shortening barrels or adding stocks to a pistol") is illegal in United States. Only certain people (yes, civilians) can own or be in possession of specific types of (full automatic) fire arms.

France used to be relatively lax when it came to the sale of surplus/deactivated firearms, but over the last five to ten years have become extremely strict. You can't even take a deactivated or blank firing firearm into France, yet it's far easier to buy a live one there.

So, basically a 100% chance this shit was obtained illegally, or modified illegally, and you still have the dumbasses reeeeing about gun control, despite this actually being a case where gun control was implemented, and failed. The NRA is going to have a field day with this shit.

If only people had MORE guns to fight against him

If only country music was banned

That just means we need MORE gun control, according to gun grabbers. Just like how the Charlie Hebdo shooting or all the other mass shootings in France were prevented by their draconian gun laws.

New If only people had MORE guns to fight against him

Most places that require a fee for entry, like music festivals, outlaw people from carrying guns into the festival. So anyone who brings a gun in to kill a lot of people basically has a bunch of defenseless sheep (disarmed by law) to slaughter until the police arrive 15-30 minutes later.

Thank you gun control!

It reminds me of Luby's shooting.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luby's_shooting

A lady present who watched her parents get murdered in front of her own eyes, says she would have carried a gun to defend herself but she had to leave it in her car or she'd be committing a felony.

Gun control, like any other form of law, is always going to be a failure to a greater or lesser extent. Because mostly it relies on people obeying that law. Which, you know, criminals don't.

I can literally make gunpowder from charcoal, rust, and compost laced with piss.

Takes 6 months to ferment the compost, but hey, it works.

Gun control BTFO.

I just can't help but find a bit ironic the worst shooting in American history happened in spite of gun laws. Everything points to this guy buying this shit off a blackmarket, or some other shady place. Which is exactly what a lot of gun people have been saying.
