I think that this drone shot of the rivers of lava is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. But then my house isn't 50 metres below it.

It's such a weird thing how nature can be both fierce and beautiful at the same time. Tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, it really makes you realize how powerless we are as a species. If the earth wants to fuck your shit up, all you can do is pray.

131 quakes in the last 24 hours. I’m going to go ahead and predict that a new vent is going to open up on that east side of the ridge.

(Last 24 hours. Yellow X = approximate location of current vents. Blue line = my prediction for another eruption)

It's really weird how fluffy and smooth the ash looks in these videos, it's as if it was one of those desert sand dunes but black or the windows xp wallpaper but from hell. I wonder if they'll be able to export that as fertilizer once this blows over (if the tsunami doesn't happen, of course).

Thats one of the things where geological timescales are to our benefit - The average eruption is something near two months. Just a single bubble reaching the surface of a boiling pot on geological scales, but a long show for all of us.

its weird because media never portrays volcanos realisitcally
every movie, tv show and cartoon has a volcano eruption take one day only. usually at night and it ends before morning.

And in other semi related volcano new Mt. Aetna went kaboom today. A fairly sizable eruption raining ash and black rocks down on Sicily.

Ive heard that there was a 4.9 today and that part of the cone collapsed. any clips around?

The most important thing to note about the earthquakes is the depth, not just the strength. Thankfully all the 4+ ones have been deep. Deeper than 30km. Thats magma moving up to fill the chamber. Which indicates no sign of stopping, but doesn't forecast a disaster. If they start getting shallow. < 10km that's bad. That's the local fault lines starting to move.

TIL theres a volcano on antarctica. Fuck global warming, if this thing blows that will not only melt, but poison a shit load of the ice caps.
Erebus erupts all the time, it's actually not all that far from the McMurdo sound base, which is on a peninsula. No chance of it melting much of shit.

Twitter seems to be under the impression that the earthquakes are happening in a grid pattern. wtf
Yes, lol. Fucking mongoloids thinking that earthquakes are caused by a secret weapon created to generate a mega tsunami. (Source)

I lied, La Palma has a secret weapon. The Virgins of Las Angustias, El Pino and Las Nieves left their parishes to request the cessation of the volcano’s activity. (Source)

Who would win, three virgins Virgins or the Chad Volcano?
