La Palma is rumbling - What are the implications of a 40 foot Tsunami along the east coast?

Not sure if related, but there's a wave that is projected to quickly form into a major hurricane right after forming.
Other than that, I'm a bit scared. Even if it turns out to be a nothingburger and Mother Nature is Mother Nature, the fact that people are going "nothing to see here, move along" feels worrisome too. Hell, I only knew about this because of this thread.
I have family on the East Coast, I and they never encountered a tsunami, and I know nothing about tsunamis except the basic common sense of "get the fuck out of the place". Don't know how fucked they are since I don't know how fast or slow tsunamis are either, so I don't know if they have enough time if they live in Georgia and travel to the border of Alabama or something.
The Tsunami risk remains remote. As for surviving one there are three ways. First way is to run as fast as you can and do not look back. Get as far from the coast as you can. The other way to get above the impact level either on a hill or a very, very sturdy building that rises higher then the water. The third way is to get on an ocean going vessel and head out to open ocean. That one seems counter intuitive, but modern ocean ships can ride waves of almost any height provided they hit them bow on.

I've stopped watching the volcano and started watching the chats, honestly.
You're missing out on some great lava plumes.

Edit: Got our first mainstream news article that I've seen. No mention of tsunami chance. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...olcano-blasts-lava-air-ash-blankets-area.html

In my defence, I strayed during a time the only feed I could find was pointed at the mountain and no flows. The chats are fascinating though. I now enjoy both with chat popped out (BTW when you pop out chat on Youtube if it's in a language, not your own the translate option will show up. Doesn't happen in normal chat though.)

Did you catch the massive shockwave several minutes ago?

Edit: Someone clipped it. https://streamable.com/kmd8fp

I had not! I tend to check in every couple of hours or look if someone posts here since there only really seems to be one live at any given time now. (Also wtf? Seriously?) and sometimes the feeds are a news place tapping into the same live stuff.

If that guy's house makes it out alright he can probably make a hell of a living off of obsidian and whatever else hardens from that Magma that is on his property.

They seem to go out of their way to not report the possibility of a mega tsunami. Guess it's it's another zero reporting on WuFlu in late 2019 again.

I think if I lived on the coast right now, I would make sure I kept the vehicles full of fuel and had the valuables where they could be grabbed and loaded in a hurry. Just in case.

Ventusky.com has an option to show air quality on the map, and La Palma is certainly stinking up the place.

Oh, and Guatemala has a volcano erupting too, because why the hell not.

I think having an obsidian driveway would be considered a luxury addition to his property. In the least, he has now the most expensive fence bordering his neighbors on earth - pure obsidian.

Pretty nice defensive usage as well. Shit's harder than glass. Spaniards learned this the hard way when they fucked around and found out with the Aztecs.

I know nothing about volcanoes so are volcanoes supposed to be constantly erupting this long? Trying to research further gives constant fearmongering and doomposting. I do have to admit that it is kind of funny hearing roosters cawing at the crack of dawn despite the eruption going on.
EDIT: Only thing I found is that a meteorologist on twitter by the name of James Spann came to debunk the chance of a tsunami.

I've seen comments about it potentially going 40+ days. But at this point it was so hard to even find streams too, I can no longer tell you if I just saw it in a chat, an article, or a video at this point.

Look up Stromboli volcano though that might help. That's the type of volcano it is. They can go for a while longer than the type that produces pyroclastic clouds (Like in the movie Volcano, or Dante's Peak, or Mt. St Helen's in the States back in the '80s. One big explosion.) and is more powerful than what's going on in Iceland (where the lava is just kind of oozing out.)

No idea if eruptions can switch types though. As I understand it the worry about a Tsunami is if a piece of the island breaks off and falls into the ocean - which won't happen from this kind of eruption, but a well-placed quake could cause it to happen.

It very much varies. There are rough classifications for each volcano, but at the end of the day I'd argue every single volcano is unique and has the potential to change the way it works depending on a wide range of factors that we have no way of accurately measuring. Geology seems like a lot of supposition and guess work since they can only gather data, not really test theories.

Fuck the weather man. Bring back the weather girls who got the predictions wrong. I want big boob boom wave!
