Yeah but it varies, groups who are very popular have lots of security and still get caught out. One boy group almost got kidnapped by fans because they drove an exact replica of their van outside their hotel when they were about to leave. While others have virtually no security due to the fact they aren't very famous and mothers come up and ask them to marry their daughters who are fans.

They also have a wikipedia article now.

Motives

Many sasaengs are motivated by a desire to gain recognition from their idols and stand out from other fans.[9] One sasaeng fan interviewed gave an explanation for this obsessive behavior:

This need for individual recognition from idols has fueled some notable sasaeng acts. Physical assault is one perceived way of being remembered.[10] In 2012, a sasaeng reportedly slapped Yoochun, of the boy group JYJ, in the face, justifying herself by saying that the idol would surely remember her from then on.[11][unreliable source?]

While sasaengs have formed a network to help spread and share information, a sasaeng's activity is also individualistic. The sasaeng who can get closest to an idol, or who can acquire private information no one else has, gains greater respect among other sasaengs.[12]

Tactics

Sasaengs have developed various methods for obtaining information about idols, and have formed a sasaeng network to share information and form groups to accomplish tasks. It has been noted that sasaeng fans old enough to work will try to get jobs in industries bringing them closer either to their idols or to information concerning them. Target employers may include airline companies, phone companies, and credit card companies.[15] In 2017, Brave Entertainment, home of solo artist Samuel, dismissed two staff members for sasaeng fan activity that included following other artists and communicating personal information about Samuel.[16]

The increased popularity of social media has made possible the sale of information concerning idols on social media platforms such as Twitter, KakaoTalk, and Instagram.[17] Some sasaengs have access to wide-ranging personal information, that may include home addresses, cellphone numbers, flight details, personal social media accounts, credit card account numbers, audio recordings, and videos. Some sellers also offer to sell the methods they use to obtain this information. One seller of such information tweeted:

The so-called "sasaeng taxi" is a method used by sasaengs to follow idols to their scheduled activities or personal appointments. Such taxis charge an average of $600 a day, and will follow an idol or group for the entire day, exceeding speed limits and breaking other traffic rules.[15] Drivers of such taxis may wait outside venues for customers.[18]

Such methods, costly in terms of both time and money, have resulted in sasaeng fans missing or dropping out of school, sleeping in Internet cafes, or turning to prostitution to cover their sasaeng-related expenses.

This sort of shit is what happens when girls in their teens and early twenties dont have media like Harry Potter, hunger games, or fifty shades of grey to consume and sperg about.

Teaching women to read was a mistake

I don’t know if this was mentioned here before, but an idol trainee who was going to join Girl’s Generation had an interview a while back and she mentioned how the female idols were forced to weigh themselves daily in front of the male idols, and if they were deemed “overweight” (which was probably being slightly above 50 kilo) they would be chastised by everyone around them. She mentioned how it was the reason she had such horrible mental health and a plethora of eating disorders, and that her parents interfering and forcing her to quit was, in hindsight, better than becoming a member of GG (she was really close to getting there).

I found the Korean show where a lot of the info seems to come from

There's also issues with exhaustion among a lot of idols since they have to perform often at many shows in a single day, and do interviews, appearances, and fan interactions. If they pass out they will usually be put on oxygen and a drip and then after a few hours sent right back out.

I just wish "idol culture" in general will just die out. Grown men and women thirsting over young performers while the media parades them around like slaves is just fucking disgusting.

I thought stans were annoying, but nope, borderline real life. . . um what is the Korean equivalent to the Japanese term yandere?

CLC’s Sorn Apologizes Following Backlash Over Racist Image And Controversial Post
CLC’s Sorn has written an apology after coming under fire for posting a photo containing racist imagery and appearing to be dismissive of fans’ concerns.

On December 19, Sorn posted a photo on social media that includes a friend wearing a racist mask. Following comments about the racist caricature, she deleted the photo.

She also uploaded an image of herself on which she wrote, “Sometimes some ppl just gotta chill, I’m not stupid,” with an emoji of a hand making a V. This led to a large backlash on social media, with Sorn’s name trending worldwide on Twitter at No. 1 as fans expressed their disappointment over what appeared to be a dismissal of their concerns and offense over the photo.

Sorn later posted the following apology on Twitter:

"Hey everyone, in light of recent events, I sincerely apologize for my actions. Specifically, I am sorry for being culturally insensitive and in no way was I trying to intentionally offend anyone. In hindsight, I am realizing how this photo could have offended others. I am genuinely sorry, and will reflect upon my mistakes. I am not asking for anyone’s forgiveness but I am writing this message to say that I know how much people are hurt by the picture I posted last night. I understand that people are allowed to feel and I am no way expecting the people I offended to forgive me. Sorry guys and I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again in the future. Sorry for disappointing you Cheshire."

As the apology did not address the issue of Sorn’s apparent initial response to the photo, a fan asked her to apologize for this. Sorn replied, “That was a post I posted of me ranting about something else which has nothing to do with this situation. Sorry for the confusion :’(.” Her reply has garnered mixed reactions, with many fans expressing doubt over her explanation and asking for further details.

I get that asians are naturally thin and small but come the fuck on, some of them want to look like literal skeletons with absolutely NO muscle mass. I'm not a kpop fan but I've seen my fair share of idols performing and some of them look like they are fucking dying under all the makeup.

This industry is fucked up and its really worrying so many young people see those idols as role models.

If you want to see firsthand how completely delusional kpop stans are, just search up any idol that’s been involved in some heinous shit and you’ll have hundreds of teen girls squealing about how perfect their little angles are.

A recent example is Seungri of Big Bang, earlier this year a nightclub he managed/was otherwise involved deeply with was busted for sex trafficking, prostitution and general sexual nastiness. It’s called the Burning Sun Scandal, feel free to google it for a more in-depth write up and a list of the idols implicated in it.

Despite it being virtually impossible for Seungri to not be complicit in the sex fuckery going on (even if he didn’t engage in it directly) the stans have battened down the hatches and behave as if nothing happened at all :|

It never ceases to amaze me that in South Korea an idols career can be ended because they started dating someone, meanwhile internationally they can start an illegal sex trafficking ring and still have hoards of defensive stans.

You know, it's because if they start dating someone, the fangirls would lose the false hope that they have a chance with them. BUT if they start a sex trafficking ring, the fangirls are ok because it gives them hope they will end up being ''chosen'' among the other trafficked girls.

God knows they're crazy enough to think like this.

That sort of stuff is openly talked about. Some idols see it as a source of pride. Like "The Daughter of Korea", IU

Well, you know about what they say about beauty being relative, but this woman on the gif doesn't even remotely look healthy. She's sp skinny her head looks big as fuck for her body. Not good to look at.

Also, would be amazing if they stopped sugar coating about their diet plans. They talk as if only restricting calories and drinking lots of water will do the trick, when everybody and their dog know that they are literally starving themselves for days. As I said, what's really fucked up is, young and impressionable girls buy into this shit thinking they will look like this only by drinking lots of water and exercising, and when the results aren't the same, then they finally develop an eating disorder.

Ha ha ha. There it is. There he goes. Sauntering on to our message board, making his little wisecracks about Seungri. Ha ha ha.

I attended Chung-Ang university at the same time as Seungri and let me kick a little science at you bro - if you saw the caliber of babes he was picking up on the reg, you wouldn’t be talking shit about this little "scandal". I’m talking about some of the most smokin hot babes you’ve ever seen. Blondes, brunettes, black chicks, asian girls, native americans (yes, we had those in Korea) And they were all 10s. These girls knew that they didn’t have to wait for the earth to rotate on a 33 degree axis for the stars to touch the sky and create an equinox in order to see The Big Dipper. No no no, all they had to do was call Seungri, and call they did. Early and often. In fact, me and the crew would sometimes throw Wii U parties in the dorm, they were a pretty big deal, real exclusive guestlist. Seungri never managed to attend one, but we all knew why. Nothing had to be said. The Big Dipper.

You see, Seungri is a winner in life and if you’d rather be able to say you never fucked a prostitute than get laid then I can’t do nothing for you, champ. So enjoy your poz rates dude, I bet they’ll pair real nicely with the pussy you aren't getting.

IU’s crash diet is a bit insane. There was a trend of people trying it a while back. Apparently it was an apple for breakfast, a baked sweet potato for lunch and a protein shake for dinner.

The thing that confuses me about the Burning Sun scandal is that illegal underground prostitution is a thing. But why was prostitution shut down in the first place? Surely they'd realize without government oversight a massive underground industry would occur where the women have no protections. And this was after the SK Womens Department was formed.

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (Korean: 여성가족부; Hanja: 女性家族部, abbreviated to MOGEF) or the Ministry of Gender Equality (여성부, 女性部) is a cabinet-level division of the government of South Korea. It was created on February 28, 1998 as the Presidential Commission on Women's Affairs. The current Ministry was formed on January 29, 2001.

In 2004, the South Korean government passed an anti-prostitution law (Special Law on Sex Trade 2004) prohibiting the buying and selling of sex and shutting down brothels.[15] Soon afterward, over 2,500 sex workers demonstrated in the streets to demand the repeal of the law, as they believed it threatened their livelihood.[16] In 2006, the Ministry for Gender Equality, in an attempt to address the issue of demand for prostitutes, offered cash to companies whose male employees pledged not to pay for sex after office parties. The people responsible for this policy claimed that they want to put an end to a culture in which men get drunk at parties and go on to buy sex.[17]

In 2007 the government announced that sex tourism by Koreans would be made illegal, as well as Korean women going abroad to sell sex. The courts prosecuted 35,000 clients, 2.5 times higher than the number of those who were caught buying sex in 2003.[15] Meanwhile, enforcement is weak and corruption problematic; there is little evidence that new legislation has made much difference, the trade simply finding other ways to carry on its business.[18] However more men are being sent to "John School" for purchasing sex,[19] while a 2010 investigation suggested that 20% of seniors seek out sex workers.
[20]

Following the enactment of the Special Law in 2004, there was a crackdown on red-light districts; while many of the brothels in those areas were forced to close, the crackdown went as quickly as it came, with the result that prostitution was driven more underground but also became a more competitive business with lower prices and more services.[citation needed]

Red light districts in South Korea can compare to those of Amsterdam and Germany. The four main red light districts in South Korea prior to the Special Law are Cheongnyangni 588, Yongsan Station, and Mia-ri in Seoul and Jagalmadang in Daegu. While not all of them are operating to full capacity, some still exist while being tolerated not only due to the vast amount of money that is involved in the business, but also in an attempt to control the sex industry.

The weaker they are, the easier it is to abuse them. When they're starving like that, they're too weak to think properly and defend themselves, so it's not surprising that their companies want them skeleton thin. It seems to be part of their culture as well since most men over there want their women to look like children and be just as vulnerable.

(I've been told that women without any fat on them can't get their periods so these probably don't have to worry about birth control during their secret meetings with higher ups and sponsors.)
