This is probably the closest approximation to stan culture on the surface. Waifu/Husbando culture.
I was interested in the K-Pop industry and have read up a lot about it. The industry itself tries to generate these "stans" or what you'd call "whales" in online games, or "problem gamblers". The whole system is designed to market boy or girl groups to a target audience. The hope is, that a small dedicated group of "stans" will form, emotionally attached to the group, that will be the backbone of their profit and marketing operation.
In SK, Kpop fanmeets are usually not just about buying a ticket and going to meet your favorite group. Tickets to fanmeets have a chance to be found within the groups albums. Therefore only the most dedicated fans attend as they have bought upwards of 50 albums to guarantee they find a ticket to see their favorite group. By spending the money to to see them, they become more invested. When they then get to see them personally they get even more invested. So they are likely to buy even more merchandise to support them. Like an endless feedback loop.
So in the end the most hardcore of hardcore fans are typically people with real issues, and are so invested in a kpop group they see any attack on the group as an attack on them. The Twitter stans I don't find very interesting, they are your typical armchair activist. It's when you see these people on film, at the meets and with the groups you see the types this system attracts. Especially if things don't go the way they want.

I have a younger family member who is into BTS. I took them to a concert. The amount of money fans drop is unreal. Not only that, you had to wait in line for hours just for the merch line. We also went to their line store in NYC and it was a TWO HOUR wait to get into the store to buy that cartoon merchandise that BTS created. Not 2 hours to see the band. Two hours to buy their stuff. And the store was practically cleaned out by the time we got in there. Luckily, she and her friend weren't interested in going to the pop up store which sold merchandise completely different from the tour merchandise to entice you to buy more stuff.This is probably the closest approximation to stan culture on the surface. I've never gone to a concert with ticketed seats (not all General admission seating) where you still had to get there at 10 am for a concert that starts at 7 or 8 pm. It was hot as hell and the whole merchandise line was set up in a parking lot with no shade. With the other vendors selling bottled water for $5 and fans not buying any because they spent all their cash on merch. Absolutely nuts. I don't think I'd do it again. Well, maybe because I do love that kid. But, I'm drinking next time if I have to do it. I hope she is over her kpop phase the next time the tour comes around.

I've seen it happen in real life, at least in the short term, where female friends/family try to support Stan Zero because "at least they are finally passionate about something, so we should support them too." The fact that foreign pop acts are starting to collaborate with American acts and appear in US venues also makes it slightly more socially acceptable for them to dip their toe into the water compared to previous sort of niche things these types of people would have obsessed over. And there is always that sort of joy that most adults get when feeling that they are tuned into what the "hip young kids" think is cool right in that moment. I don't know how it worked out in the long term for my personal case study, but there's only so many ways any addiction scenario can play out in affecting your relationships with people who enable you. They're outta my life now, since I wasn't going to be an enabler, and they didn't want my advice.
Yes, I was watching a Korean show where they talk about people problems. It featured a Wife who "stanned" 2PM a kpop boy group, and it was causing problems for her children and mother-in-law. Her husband must be busy working all the time because she spends all her money flying around asia going to their concerts, buying products they advertise, buying albums to get tickets. She even knows their schedule, despite it not being published publicly. She also hands out all the extra copies of the album she bought to get the fanmeet ticket to the audience.

"Stan" is actually a combination of "stalker" and "fan", which was coined by someone in the entertainment industry and was originally a derogatory term for crazed groupies (that annoyed, harassed, etc musicians and actors).
"Stan" is now proudly worn by KPop stans. I've never seen fans of someone or something else throw around and wear that term as much as the Koreaboos.

"Stan is a combo of stalker + fan" is kind of an urban legend. The term originated from Eminem specifically, however, rather than being a terms he coined against awful fans, it was actually just the title of a story song about an obsessive fan being angry that Eminem dared have a life outside of being a musician. Stan was the nickname the main character has in it, with his actual name being Stanely.
Which means, going by the term's first meaning, these people are telling others to "Stanely BTS", and calling themselves "Jimin Stanley's (IDK what a pack of Stanley's called)".

It's sure is a time to be a live when even weeaboos were never this rabid as far as music goes. Say what you want about J-Pop but even that never gotten as bad as far as horrible fans go since J-Pop even at its peak was more of a niche thing where anime fans would listen to a song that they like that was featured in some anime that they just watch and look up both the song and the artist and then buy their music too.
Here, K-Pop suffers the same curse as boy bands in the United States where the only people that like K-Pop are normie adult women and preteens that take this shit way too seriously. And the thing is, K-Pop was never really that good to begin with.
The only reasons why K-Pop got so big is because K-Pop uses the same shit that boy bands in the United States use to appeal to a female audience. Now if you ever really bother to examine many of these K-Pop songs and their music videos, it uses the same stuff that appeals to a western audience such as rock, the western-styled music artist clothing, flashy effects, and a catchy pop beat. But the lyrics used in these K-Pop songs are really as generic as they can get. If fact, the lyrics used in K-Pop songs are so generic that they seem like the shitty poems that some preteen wrote on their spare time.
Overall, K-Pop sucks and so does its fans. Honestly, the day that BTS finally breaks up is the day that this stupid fad will finally die off and we will be far better off when that happens.

There is more to korean music than Boybands... and how about the males with their fetish for girlbands i've seen a ton of those. I personally like more smaller artists in Korea that don't get much attention like Zion t. or Dean.

Also the only bts song I have heard with any reasonably decent lyrics is from one of the rappers from his self produced album, hes a decent rapper but I think hes the only one who writes his own stuff in the whole group.

Well I'm not trying to diss all Korean music. All I'm saying is that K-Pop isn't anything all that special anyway.
And considering how corrupt the industry is along with the fact that the South Korean government are actually enablers despite the horrid shit that does happen in the K-Pop industry shut reinforces my beleif of why K-Pop in general is just total shit anyway.
Nothing about that really surprises me since the South Korean government is very corrupt in which they enable corrupted music labels that don't really care about the well being about their K-Pop stars all that much either.
Now I will agree with you that there are gems for every pile of dirt that you search through but sadly most people would rather consume the pile of worthless dirt over finding those gems sadly.
