To celebrate Castlevania's 35th anniversary, Konami has announced Castlevania NFTs

They sure got the memorial part right.

Konami murdered castlevania and whored out the corpse.

Thank God for rom hacks and fan games
it literally just in-game sprite art and preexisting artwork

From a description of an NFT:
"Notwithstanding the above provisions, in the event Konami determines that the purchaser will illegally or inappropriately use the NFT, the purchaser will lose the right to receive the benefits (the displayed nickname will be deleted).
・The purchaser will not, by purchasing the NFT, obtain intellectual property rights (e.g. copyrights, trademark rights) in relation to the data linked to the NFT. Thus, the purchaser may not use the data linked to the NFT (e.g. reproductions) for commercial purposes.
・Konami is not able to preclude the purchaser from spreading on social media the fact that the purchaser purchased the NFT nor from transferring the NFT to a third party.
・Konami will not sell another NFT that is linked to the same data that is linked to the current NFT at any time in the future, but may sell a NFT that is linked to data based on Castlevania series in the future."

Wtf are you actually buying in this case?

I remain convinced that NFTs are just a poorly-disguised front for money laundering, and the hype is just to distract away from the criminal enterprise. None of this shit makes sense to my boomer brain otherwise.

This whole NFT thing is real confusing and intimidating. How does this even a viable business model for people who aren’t rich and/or famous, or who come into the fold first? I know this is just another dumbass version of a micro transaction, but I don’t see any benefit from this even in comparison to a micro transaction itself. You’re making the product unique and could lose out on gains, never mind that many mediums like music end up just getting released to the public anyway.

It makes a lot of sense for some things. Like used game sales. You buy an NFT representing the game license and use it to authenticate your purchase.

It doesn't make sense for art.

For what it's worth, if it's NES era Castlevania and Super Castlevania art, it actually might be valuable especially in NFT form.

Konami lost pretty much all of the original production artwork for Castlevania 1-3, Castlevania Adventure 1-2, and Super Castlevania in an earthquake that destroyed the building where it was being warehoused in the mid-1990s. Hence why all Castlevania stuff is skimpy when it comes to representing the early era games behind the scenes-wise.

Out of all the videogame companies out there, Konami is the one that surprises me the least. Not because they're a greedy corporation, blah blah blah; but because they are a gaming (i.e. gambling) company. They don't just do pachinko shit in Japan, but slots and shit here in the USA, and I imagine elsewhere too. One of the reasons MGS5 had that giant cut is because the CEO was a gaming type, not a videogame type, and pretty much cut off the funds because he didn't know/believe in the product. So if there's a new way for them to make money, they'd try it out (as any company would, Konami just surprises me the least).

That's because it's not a viable business model. NFT's are fundamentally worthless, the only way to make money on them is by exploiting dumbasses by convincing them they're missing out on the next big thing. It's basically the newer, gayer version of the dot com craze of the 90s, and just like the dot com bubble burst spectacularly, so will the NFT one, and I am waiting with undisguised glee for that day.

It's art collecting for retards basically. Everyone is buying these worthless pieces hoping they will get the next Da Vinci when in reality they are buying worthless crap that will never be worth anything.

Yeah NFT's are basically like verifiable receipts/contracts. I think the craze over them is really stupid, but they have a legitimate use case.

I’m just glad that Castlevania turns 35 years old. It’s a really wonderful game that make me question who asked for the anime version for it.

Pity Im so apathetic that I cant afford to get upset. I dont care for that company THAT much.

I told everyone that VR tech would be turned against us sooner or later, the same way DLCs and microtransactions were

I STILL havent understood what the fuck NFTs is but I can already tell I hate them

It's honestly amazing the game is as good as it is given how clearly unfinished it is.

Kojima should volunteer to finish it.

Make an NFT of the Kojima character model from MGSV, I want to see the seethe. Also make one of the list of higher ups at the company when Kojima was a higher up and killed Castlevania by giving it to Mercury Steam to poorly clone God Of War.

Man fuck konami.

1 will never forgive them for what they did to Kojima and Metal Gear.

on that note...

KOJIMA, YOKO TARO, MIYAZAKI TEAM UP GAME WEN?!
