"But my Lord... Who should ally with?"
“Allies? IMBECILES! WE CRUSH THE BOTH!"
Its funny to me how he only says IMBECILES like once or twice in the second game.

Speaking of the second game and death.

"Am i, going to die?"
"Yeah... i think so"

Legit made me shed a tear.

SW2 with the baffling decision to use a bunch of Canadian unknowns is still odd to me. Some of them were fine but most were very miscast.
Really? Who? I thought the dubing were excellent.

SW2 was fun but wow many many overused stages. I can only take so much of Kawanakajima, Sekigahara, village rescue, and Osaka Castle/Bay. Loved Anegawa, Honnoji, Edo Castle, and Shizugatake stages though. The dream stages were also funny. Also Kotaro, Tadakatsu, Yukimura, etc were everywhere. Everywhere.
Its a good thing XL sorta fixes that.

SW1 had the best version of Osaka prior to Spirit of Sanada. It's one of the few times in these games you really feel the 1v1000 dynamic Koei wanted to capture.
The Osaka missions in Spirit of Sanada were peak, I loved the moment in the defense of the Sanada-Maru when Masamune orders a mass charge while Yukimura orders all of his soldiers to withdraw, "I can take on all of you with just my spear!"

Noh's actress in 2 is way too young. The guy who voiced Keiji/Magoichi was good sometimes.

SW2 is my favorite in the series but it had a lot of baffling design decisions. Dropping floklore characters like Ranmaru and Okuni but wasting character slots on Musashi and Kojiro, making the focus more on Hideyoshi but not adding in any Chugoku characters and cutting Kennyo and Inabayama, trying to keep the ninjas relevant by swapping Kunoichi with Nene but cutting the castle dungeon-crawling while adding Osaka, Ueda and two stages for Odawara, expanding the movesets but cutting the lite-rpg mechanics, releasing the XL after Empires, getting rid of branching stories but reusing the maps about as much as SW1 in far less creative ways, etc. 2 would have been the best musou game if Koei had just been willing to shoot themselves in the foot after crossing the finish line for once.

The VAs were mostly fine for me. Mitsunari's deadpan whenever he deals with Ginchiyo still gets a chuckle and the Shingen VA was having a good time with his lines.

KT has just ninja released a Roguelike game with DW and SW characters, called WARRIORS: Abyss.

The $25 base price is already steep, but the most expensive version costs $80, with character costumes reused from previous games.

KT also said that other characters will be added in future updates, and the Jin faction will be added first, and there's a possibility that characters outside of KT's IPs may be added later on too.

And DWO was the #1 most downloaded game on the Japan PS Store, but the lack of exact numbers is a bit concerning for the success of the game:

they're the best shit games.
that's probably the best summary of KOEI games anyone could make.
KOEI games are like good B movies.
their games were the undisputed kings of the bargain bin at gamestop, so you pick up whatever game you went there for and grab dynasty warriors whatever the fuck for 5-10 bucks and even if your full price game sucks Cao Cao is going to wreck some shit, so its a not a total loss.

Excepting their strategy games which are industry hallmarks, Koei games used to be some of the best in that old mid-tier market that studios like Pandemic also flourished in. Not good or big budget enough to be trend-setters, but fun, had a lot of soul and some interesting ideas. I'm still waiting for a proper sequel to Kessen 3, musou and total war worked together weirdly well.

their strategy games
Yeah, Kessen 3 and the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series were all surprisingly good, and no one was making a similar game, so can't call them B tier, even though I want to call them B tier because they were KOEI as fuck.
But I don't think any of their games were bad or even mediocre, it was just easy to find them in the bargain bin because they were prolific sequel releasers. I think they were just that dialed in on improving their games. They never stopped working on their games, its ready when its ready isn't a delay tactic for KOEI its an excuse to release another Dynasty Warriors for the same console generation.
KOEI Tecmo are fucking legends of gaming.

Whats your guys thoughts on SW4DX? I like the game but its just... not as fun as the older titles. Its flashy and chaotic but the normal enemies feel like absolute fodder thanks to the rush mechanic. I like the story modes well enough but i would feel sorry for the guy who plays the game without knowing the story of the Sengoku era (as in you invest all this time on a character only to have them die in the story). Dosent help its hard to keep up with the dialog because the its on Japanese, so i have to pause the game and read the dialog to understand whats going on. I do like they have small story segments depending who you play as in any given stage. if you have two characters that like eachother, you may get a extra cut scene with these characters before the battle. The weapon system is easy enough to understand. gems are easy to come by and all you really need are red gems for potency (more attack power) and a elemental in the weapon. i just miss weapons having a unique look to them, so not only do you feel stronger, you look stronger too.

It sounds like im complaining alot but the game is still fun. It just feels like im playing slop at times.

Almost done with the game. Just got Osaka (Iyeasu side) and then i can start with Sanada story mode.

Still waiting for the SW 4 and DW 7 Empires ports and a classics collection and the Gundam games.

Their older games were the shit. I played Aerobiz (SNES) a shit-ton as a kid and loved it. That title is kinda what got me into SimCity and other such strategy games growing up.
