I don't think it's that they don't play games but that they base their opinions more on what they remember rather than what is actually true.

Even here I'd be curious to know when people last played a lot of the games they voted for and waxed about in the thread. I know I'm guilty of it: I've talked mad shit about how Deus Ex holds up in Current Year but I've not replayed it since it came out.
I 1cc Splatterhouse once an October as a tradition. I've probably played at least an hour or two of Donkey Kong just in the past couple months, and same for Pac-Man in the past two years. I've had at least a couple games of some kind of Tetris and Puyo Puyo (ie, Mean Bean Machine, but not that version) in that timespan. I've played some Doom and probably beaten Shinobi 3 since signing up on KF. Game I dickrode the hardest purely on ancient memory is Nethack. Game I dickrode the hardest without playing it at all is 177.

Maybe enabling vpn voting wasn't the best idea? 🤔 Oh well, my favourite games are long gone
I'm considering running another of these in six months or so where voting is done in-thread by surrounding your votes in [[double square brackets]] so that no third-party sites will be needed, but I'll have to write a scraper first.

The advantages, as I see them, are:
  • encouraging participation by removing privacy concerns
  • streamlining the process by letting your post about how you voted and why everyone who disagrees with you is wrong actually be your vote
  • allowing you to change your vote by making another post, as long as voting for that round hasn't closed yet
  • reducing ballot-stuffing by allowing one vote per account
  • harvesting tears by not allowing accounts created after the start of the thread to vote and counting accounts less than 1 year old (including my own) as three-fifths of a user (ostensibly to fight the use of alts)

Tetris (47 votes) vs. Half-Life (84 votes)
Absolutely assblasted, there may be hope for the farms after all
You can say the same for HL1 vs HL2, go to the HL thread in KF and more than most of the regulars there will admit HL1 is far more replayable than HL2. This makes the KF bracket much more sensible.
This is very true, they basically stopped trying to make games just inherently fun to control around the 2000's for no good reason, so you have dozens of games that are great to play through once because all of the best parts are when you go "wow, games can do THAT now?" and then move on to the next thing. HL2 does that every single level.

BTW, what are the best ones? I've only played 2 and 9.
If you had to ask me, 4, 7, 9 and 10 are probably the best in the Classic series. With 3, 11, Rockman & Forte (specifically the SNES one) and Mega Man V for the Gameboy being good in their own right. I have a soft spot for Mega Man 1, but I know it's not for everyone. Mega Man 5 is a good sleep aide and that's about it. I want to like Mega Man 6, and I do to a degree, but it has so much holding it back, I have trouble coming back to it. Mega Man 8... I dunno I only beat it once, I kinda hate how it looks.

X series is one I have less experience with, but X, X2, X3 and X4 were all very fun when I played them. I haven't played past that though. But I've heard it only gets worse the further in you get, and then X8 is... Just okay. There is a fanmade demake of X8 in the style of the SNES X games. It's very well made and probably better than the original. I'd also say look into the Xtreme games on the Gameboy color, never played them, but I've heard pretty good things.

I can't really speak for Zero or ZX, I only played the first one, and it wasn't really my cup of tea.

But if you wanna talk fangames? The Big Four Classic fangames would be: Mega Man Unlimited, Mega Man Rock Force, Mega Man Super Fighting Robot and Mega Man Rock and Roll. All of them are excellent games. I'd say Unlimited and RnR are the best of the best, they blow any official game out of the water.

Tetris Effect I played yesterday; CV: SoTN played with mods for new characters on my 3DS in July while testing out similar mods for AoS and DoS; Super Mario RPG I played in August (original's ROM on my modded 2DS not the Switch version- still waiting on a good version of that one to hit the pipes); Deus Ex was last year on vacation wanting to do all 3 games back to back to compare stuff; Max Payne was two years ago as MP3; Doom I've been playing WADs of off and on each year.

My modded 2DS lets me get just about any of the older games I want, and my PC picks up the rest of the slack. Still, IF I wanted to, I have most all of my old consoles sitting around somewhere that I can dust off and plug back in. Last console I ever bought was a PS3 and haven't got a single new console since. (I have friends who are spendaholic normies with multiple consoles I can use for those few games I ever want to check out and then never play again lol)

JC Denton in the fresh, or rather, in the nano-augmentations. I took the liberty of relieving you of your weapons; most of them were /v/ property. As for your augments, I think you’ve earned it.

The Kiwifarms Best Games Bracket is in our control for the time being, thanks to you. Quite a nasty piece of work you managed over there. I am impressed.

That’s why I’m here, Mr. Denton. I have commended your worth to countless video gamers, and they have authorized me to offer you a position. They agree with me that you have limitless potential.

You’ve proved yourself a decisive man, so I don’t expect you’ll have any trouble deciding what to do. As per the agreement, just step into the second place position and I will take that as a yes.

Otherwise... well... I can offer you a battle you have no chance of winning. Rather an anticlimax, after what you’ve just survived.

Time to choose.... It's time to choose.

I played DX after HL, but was incredibly late for both. DX wins by just about every margin imaginable, even guns. And I consider DX to have some of the worst sounding and feeling guns in existence. They, however, all pale in comparison to HL's arsenal. It takes talent to make a shotgun and a revolver feel so shitty to fire.
edit: just now noticed by how large of a margin Max Payne won. Voted for it simply because I didn't play the other game, but come on. Outside of bullet time it didn't have that much going for it. Some vote tampering definitely happened.
