For those few who don't know, Plex is a media library system. Its beautifully (and austically) helps catalog all your media content which then can be streamed from anywhere. What really makes it special is that you can share media libraries with friends so they as well can stream from your system and you from them as well.

With all this censorship of media from streaming sites, maybe its time that we setup our own. A great use for the kiwi farms archive everything motto. A last refuge against the coming media-pocalyse.

Is there any interest in this?

Edit: im at work right now. Will set mine back up when i get home.

I have a personal server myself, but it's currently on hold as of now since I managed to fill up the single 4 TB HDD that I have in there.

If you're seriously considering this, PM me OP I have a ton of films you could have

Plex is fucking dogshit now, I've switched over to jellyfin. If you guys wanted to donate some NFS space and know how to wireguard we could set up one hell of a kiwifarm server. I have the connects on the private trackers.

I have a Plex server up and running, I think it could handle 5 or 6 people using it. Earlier this year I was downloading a movie I've seen 10 time AGAIN and I asked myself "how many times am I going to download this fucking movie?" I talked to a couple of buddies that have been running their own server for years and I built and set up my own NAS, It's a 20 TB and acts as a Plex server and back up. I could never go back to Netflix or Hulu.

I would be interested in setting up a Plex server for the farms, the only issue would be that it could get slow if several farmers are using at at the same time. I've thought about hosting a games server for the farms too. This is literally the last place on the internet that I feel there is some sort of community and I want to do something for the site. If you're interested message me.

Plex has been gay AF leaking user data and hiding more shit behind paywalls, would be cool to have one leaseweb dedi as a jellyfin server with people connecting NFS shares to it via wireguard and have that cache transcodes n shit. Dunno maybe some other autistic retards wanna chime in.

seconding Jellyfin, made the jump from Plex to Jellyfin a couple months ago and haven't looked back.

I've always had the idea of moving my Jellyfin library to a Cloudflare R2 to see if Jellyfin could work with an S3. It's not very cheap at $15/TB/month but it offers free egress...

I've got some space (4tb) and can host a jellyfin server.

What makes Jellyfin better than Plex? I have only used Plex.

I found Jellyfin's setup easier, it's metadata generation better and had more luck tweaking/customizing it's interface than Plex. YMMV but Jellyfin was a much better fit for the way I consume media than Plex.

ps. I'm going to hear every post you make in Michael Wincott's voice, thanks.

I have similar setup. A dedicated server @ OVH running jellyfin/nextcloud/rtorrent, with about 10 users. I can tell you it works okay with an rclone mounted network drive (premiumize.me). It is slightly slower to start playing &/or transcoding, but not overly so.
