Can't believe there isn't a thread on this.

Core premise of the game. You take modern weapons back to the Battle of Agincourt. And I don't just mean guns, but muscle cars, tanks, and airstrikes.

It seems to be bucking a lot of "current year" trends, like the attractive busty female character who's boobs seem to get bigger every time the camera cuts back to her, attempts at optimization, or the trailers that show gameplay. It's been close to release for years now. But it's looking like the game is finally coming together.

Dynasty Warriors meets butthurt Welsh revisionism, lol

The game looks fantastic. The building destruction looks smooth, not "chunky" like a lot of games with pre-determined destruction mechanics. Either they have some serious tech in there or they are hiding the trickery well. I also like the dedication to "kingmaking" including all the off-battlefield things as well. Hopefully they get the multiple strategy genres integrated correctly.

My main problem is a personal hangup, I don't like gunning down men who have no chance to fight back like that. It's a viscerally horrifying thing to me that I don't enjoy. It's not even the musou dynamic, I played a ton of Dynasty Warriors, but in that you have to run up close to fight hundreds of guys armed with the same type of melee weapons you are. They have a chance to hit back, even the low level guys that you kill 10 in 1 sword swing. This game looks like you just murder dozens of men until you find the one sub-boss with actual armor. That plus running them over just triggers "horrors of war" to me instead of fun goofy times.

It also jolts you out of the time travel conceit immediately. I get that the point is to change future history, or to revert it back from the "incorrect" timeline the others guys did. But wiping out thousands of men in a past will radically change the future more than any single battle could. The butterfly effect of killing 1 person is significant, wiping out entire generations with each bullet would backfire even harder. Some of those random conscripts with pikes are ancestors to major politicians and inventors.

I know I'm not supposed to think about those themes too hard, but they're front and center in the presentation. It's not just mindless chaos with medieval aesthetics, they're taking the story and setup a little seriously and it stops me from turning the brain off. Maybe I just got too old to want mayhem without consequences in my down time.

Listen, I get where you're coming from. But this game is absurdist in its very premise. Like, come on. It's like being disturbed by fucking around with cheats in GTA.

I'm not hip on a lot of details in game dev, are they using UE4 because the games been in development so long, or is it because they just prefer it over UE5? Is this a common thing?
I don't know, but the game being on UE4 means that it will run on a lot of "old" platforms.

Clearly, but that's not my cup of tea either. I'm not saying they're wrong or bad for doing it, just that it triggers something for me personally. It's like people who get grossed out by bugs so they don't play Helldivers or Earth Defense Force. Or if you know you're susceptible to gambling addiction, so you stay away from gambling minigames (or all of EA's lootbox slop). Or more broadly, when the 3D models of humans hit uncanny valley and you get too creeped out to enjoy whatever the story is.

I hope the devs pull it off and the game succeeds, maybe I'll even try it.
