love Cobes, even though he was a terrible worker i think it was really good for him to have something to do outside the house that made him the tiniest amount of money. After he stopped working altogether and became a hermit, it was all downhill.
This is why small (100-150) communities of people have been the way which most humans have lived for the majority of history.
Were Cobes, or most lolcows, living in a village or a close knit community within a city, then they would have accepted that he was not as capable and found him a task like leading the donkey which pulled the ale cart to the fields.
Something which the donkey had probably learned to do without need for a person to actually lead it, but a village idiot supervising it would mean everyone knew where they both would probably be all day.
In our curious society where everyone in theory has opportunity to find which role suits them in life, the ones that don’t have the ability to figure that out often don’t get the supervision they need.
Not saying this was all Clint’s fault as society certainly has been saying that adult children should be pushed out of the nest and learn to ”fly” by themselves.
Had Clint basically kept Cobes close and found him a role as an ”apprentice” in his own or a good friend’s workshop, where he could basically sweep the floor and collect trash all day for minimum wage, then it would have meant Cobes felt more of a sense of dignity and wouldn’t run into trouble.
An under addressed problem these days in the west is what to do with the special kids once the special kids become special adults.
Some are capable of doing a reasonably skilled job.
Mild PL, former son in law was a fucking retard who never showered and lived in our front room for months before I threw him out, but he worked as a CNC operator/programmer.
Not the greatest of jobs some would say, but definitely not entry level minimum wage burger flipping.
Had my daughter not also been an incompetent social maladjust, then they would have been ok in some sort of semi supervised living home for special cases, while he went out to work.
Have his wages paid via the home so they take living costs and such out before giving him the rest.
Just have a warden of sorts checking they are washing and feeding themselves properly, and he is getting up to go to work. Then it would be a great service and would mean loads of these basement dwelling kids of today actually grow as people.
