When people try to morally grandstand about Cobes it's obvious that they're reaching. He wasn't a great pet owner, he cheated on Stephanie, he says mean things about trannies sometimes. Really, that's it? That justifies torturing this fucking guy? Cobes is a really entertaining guy when he's being his normal weird self and people moralizing about him are just sadists looking to inflict pain on someone they view is a deserving target.

It really is concerning. There's a whole generation of vigilantes, ready to strike as long as they are able to find something objectionable about their victims.

I think there are a few reasons why we got here:
  1. Anti-bullying initiatives have been well-intentioned but completely ineffective from the start. What these A-logs/weens are doing is certainly bullying, but they believe it is justified because of...
  2. The rise of vigilante justice in general. TV programs such as To Catch a Predator show Chris Hansen roping in offenders with minimal involvement of the authorities, making them think such a thing is normal. And to make things worse...
  3. These kids' formative years were that weird time when people wondered: "Maybe we should just defund police departments so that they are even less effective." Seeing that led them to trust the authorities even less, the first step in taking the law (or even their perceived rules of how everyone should behave) into their own hands.
It's messed up, and I'm afraid it'll get worse before it gets any better.

It would be enough to "scare them straight" so to speak. You know how pretty much every other millennial girl takes pride in going to therapy and wearing her diagnoses like they're badges of honor? Imagine her seeing this caveman in the waiting room muttering nonsense to himself. I'd like to think that she'll quickly come to the realization that THIS is the sort of person who needs therapy and that she's actually perfectly normal.

To be fair, that stopped being a Dateline segment in like 2008. What really made shit bad was the COVID-era DIY chomo catching that took off because of Twitch et al. We had YouTube in the decade or more prior, and people weren’t becoming their own vigilantes.

I argue that the rise in influencer culture and “monitorization” marked a shift in the Internet being a fun place to find weird shit to a place where the worst people in the world sought out attention and asspats from other degenerates. People want their own two seconds in the spotlight and individuals of a certain type have delusions of becoming a “content creator.”

When YouTube was just “you can upload your own videos,” the weirdness was more authentic and random. It’s how we got things like Chocolate Rain, Double Rainbow, and early Cobes.
 
@anliteralidiot, the fact that wherever WoT goes theres already a crowd of people screaming, shoving their phones in his face repeating phrases that they know will trigger him and make him hurt himself is absolutely terrifying. I know he broadcasts where he is going to go, but people actively search each other out and plan entire flashmobs, purely for their amusement.

Same. The couch Chris saga was peak Cobes IMO. The stupid Demon fight and building resentment towards Chris who wouldn't clean while Cobra was out actually working. It was what streaming should be.

Reddit was the worst. I remember when the Israel shit popped off how many people on there were seething. Let's not forget that Cobes is the world's most unreliable narrator. The story about cheating on Stephanie is probably cope. People get mad that a literal retard thought he could carry a lizard around like a parrot and it ran off. Also, as far as the enshittification of the internet, I think you can actually trace it to the fallout of the Occupy Wallstreet movement getting cucked by the commies and their new progressive ideology rising to the forefront. The purity tests and virtual struggle sessions led to the rise of virtue signaling all over social media and the rest of the internet. Reddit turned into a hive of faggotry and crushed all dissent to the new order. Gamergate was a watershed for this new type of behavior on the internet. Anyone who opposes the Narrative has free reign to attack any opposition for good boy points and updoots.

Take people used to this type of behavior and point them at someone like Cobes. Oh, he said something that goes against the grain of the approved troon narrative? Obviously, he deserves death, and they can all sit in their little hugbox on Facebook or whatever and updoot each other.

I might be in the minority here, but even with the weird sex doll dismemberment, I think Cobes is pretty harmless.

Not sure how many autists you've been exposed to, but they literally cannot grasp social norms or cues. Like, there is some disconnect in his head that makes it impossible for Cobes to realize that he cannot associate with people close to LN without it being weird at this point. Clint has also said Josh is very literal - Cobes probably thinks that if he just doesn't talk about her, to her, or say her name on his videos that it checks all the "I am not a creep" boxes and he's safe.

If I were the women in these situations and I didn't have any desire to watch his videos and dissect how he thinks, I'd probably be concerned for my safety. But as a casual Cobra enjoyer and internet doctor who is clearly capable of analyzing autistic behavior, I think he genuinely cares about these people and wouldn't hurt them.
