Probably both. sugar and alcohol both disproportionately contribute to the accumulation of visceral fat because they can only be processed in the liver, unlike glucose which can be used directly by your cells. So your liver processes what it can and what it can't usually ends up stored as visceral fat. Heavy drinking (or overconsumption of sugar, NAFLD is actually more common these days) leading to liver damage exacerbates this issue which is a major contributor to the 'beer belly' effect in middle aged men.

Most of the issues you get from alcoholism can also be acquire from drinking too much sugar. Which he does both of.

Oh, no, I am 100% aware he'd never be able to make anything worthy of calling jerky. He'd end up with a slab of meat with more fuzz on than well-aged beef and he would refuse to cut off the fuzz. Just like the mead arc before, he would utterly fail at executing the steps in the correct order regardless of how easy or newbie friendly the process is.
That's our Cobes, utterly failing at everything because he refuses to do things the correct way because his way is more logical in his bog-brain.

I'm just shocked he hasn't killed himself with any of his food hacks, drink combos, attempts at mead or his old cooking videos - and that's before he became a devout Nurgle follower, with his day old bogrritos filled with snail meat and actual, live insects.
