I'm a fan.

I don't think he's some super cool goth guy but he provides me hours of entertainment. If he wasn't an alcoholic who was killing himself, I wouldn't even be against giving him a few bucks.

There are. The subreddit would have the occasional "I sent Josh a thing and he destroyed it, what the heck?!" post. They'd be mocked, but there were genuine fans who wanted to send him nice things and were seemingly completely blindsided by the man they had apparently watched for long enough to become "genuine supporters" of was a total ingrate.

Now, whether or not he fans as you've described them, where they genuinely think he's cool? Harder to say, almost certainly not. But he did at one time have a lot of people who watched him out of some degree of fondness and would admit as much.

I don't get how people can hate on Cobes. He's a harmless retard. The only instances we have of sicko behavior come from the Boglim himself, but he actually thinks he's a goth rockstar bad boy so I am not taking what he says at face value. Running over a bird with his tire is exactly the type of thing a retarded edge lord would make up to sound cool. If he was able to avoid the temptation of smacking up the Bog Hag I think it's pretty safe to say he's harmless.

Trolls used to have somewhat of a point when they said he could have gotten a job back in the day, but look at him now. Motor skills of a chimp, problem solving skills of a goldfish, awareness of a lemming. He wouldn't be able to do anything. Tell him to sit in a chair for 15 minutes and he'd fuck it up somehow.

Like Cyraxx (who is exponentially worse but is also self-limiting), it is predatory behavior by people who are used to being the prey. They aren't going after him because of what he did, but because he is the only one they can affect because they are, in terms of how pathetic they are, even sadder.

Frequently, the ones fucking with people like Cobra are fucked in the head and enjoy inflicting some sadistic punishment as a perverse form of justice. There is a reason the expression about the crime fitting the punishment exists yet none of these Discord retards understand this (or accept it). Calling Cobra a retard because he sometimes insults trannies fits for them. Trying to get Cobra killed by swatting him because they're just jealous of Cobra's fame and passive income doesn't fit. But they've done it.

Whenever a lolcow is called a pedophile, there is a general silent agreement amongst these Discord degenerates that this accusation means all acts inflicted on the accused are justified. This has been seen with Cyraxx, Daniel Larson, Cobra, DSP (about Pandalee I believe), and more. Nothing is off-limits for these people, and everything they do is normalized.
