The other day I found out that there was a leaked Cobra Cane Mountain Dew flavor that got cancelled I’m not joking. We were absolutely fucking ROBBED. I’m so depressed about it it’s unreal. There’s a clinical term for this. With autism, it’s identified as “scripting,” which is essentially repeating a word or phrase over and over again. I noticed Cobra does this in a lot of videos where he’ll just ruminate on a certain topic. It’s usually best combatted with early intervention (as in 18 or younger). One way to do it would be to distract the person with a different topic, or move on to a different setting/activity to keep the mind from straying back to the original topic.
With Clint’s psychology background, I’m surprised he hasn’t really worked on this with him, but having learned about Clint’s history, I don’t agree with his methods. I think Clint used too much punishment (such as taking away items, grounding, yelling, etc.) and not enough positive reinforcement (verbal praise, high fives, treats, etc.). By focusing too much on Cobra’s maladaptive behaviors and not enough on what he succeeded in, it may have decreased his drive to actually do better, in addition to using punishment liberally. All that being said, Cobra in general tends to look for the easy way out of most things, and that personality flaw would make it harder to succeed.
I find Cobra to be an interesting case study, as he exhibits behaviors I work on with kids at my job. I’m not sure how an intervention would be done for scripting for an adult, but he definitely lacks support in reinforcing it, even if he had therapy. A therapist can only do so much, and if others around him aren’t helping him out by reinforcing desired behaviors, then it’s not as effective.

I really think Clint was too harsh. I find it unethical to use punishment as means to produce better behavior, and it’s clinically been shown to be ineffective. Unless Cobes actually had a job that required shorter hair, it probably wasn’t necessary. Now, if Clint just gave verbal praise more often when Cobes did appropriate behaviors (like wearing deodorant regularly, brushing teeth, or doing dishes), that may have helped too. He could even have used delayed reinforcement with a token economy where he could work for things like gift cards, hobby items, etc. I guess I would have a way different approach than Clint when working with a case like Cobra’s.

Clint doesn't really have a background in Psychology and the exact opposite is really the truth. Clint used plenty of positive reinforcement and words of encouragement throughout Cobra's entire childhood, he has encouraged every endeavor that Cobra has thrown himself into in every way that can be imagined, no matter how ridiculous the hobby is., this is true of most of his family too. The problem is that Cobra has Oppositional Defiance Disorder, thankfully we have some proof of that from the recent interview with Clint, he's kept that an unconfirmed speculation for a while but it makes educating him in any way very miss with little hit.
The few times Cobra has actually retained information or lessons is when he had real consequences attached to them, there's a number of examples of that like failing Job Core and having his computer cords taken away, not getting a job within the specified timeframe and having his hair cut like a lesbian Frankenstein. That only happened early on and the lessons stuck for quite a while, it's only recently that Clint has been more strict with him because his drinking habits are affecting his life. His substance abuse problems are going to make whatever reinforcement he's dolling out a waste of his time since Cobra won't be able to rationally make decisions 75% of the time. This stacks with his already extremely difficult mental issues, hence why Clint's stuck him in a trailer and ignores him.

There is a difference between encouraging hobbies and encouraging decent behavior. Clint was supportive in the sense of helping him with his hobbies, but I don’t think he was given enough encouragement with his behavior. For instance, by job corps, he struggled with basic tasks that could have been taught at an early age, such as reading directions. You’ll even see it in his cooking videos where he just doesn’t bother reading directions on how to make box mac and cheese.
