The Gothic King Cobra documentary is genuinely one of the best documentaries ever made. It’s incredibly ahead of its time and is so much better than any of the modern YouTube lolcow documentaries. I really wish trapped made more than 2 documentaries.
Somebody pointed this out but I wasn’t able to confirm it with facts to back it up. But allegedly the school photos were taken by Clint and not only that but he shooped cobies eyes straight. Please assume that’s bullshit and I’m talking out my ass since I can’t remember where I heard it and I have nothing to go on to back it up. If somebody else can confirm or has some actual proof of it that would be cool. Either way though, funny to think about.

The OG Trapped gothickingcobra doc transcends being just a lolcow documentary. It's like a video document of what living in a small town in the middle of nowhere is like and the weirdos you find there.
No other documentary has ever come close to recreating what Trappped did. The lack of commentary, the music, the subtle existential undertones about the decline of middle America. That's art.
That documentary reminds me way too much of my early 20's and all the friends and acquaintances I had who ended up caught up in baby mama drama, had kids before they were ready, or just kinda pissed their 20's away doing nothing. Those people were fun to drink and toke with but fuck, the existential dread really crept up on me after awhile. I knew I could make a better life for myself than what they had.
I saw a documentary once where some guy went back to his rural hometown to make a documentary about his "little brother" from a big brother program who he hadn't seen in 20 years or something and the guy had grown up to be a child molesting drug addict or something and it was exactly like those vibes just worse, not that I'd expect cobes himself to end up like THAT, but it's almost like a progression of those themes.
A big dossier was posted to /r/NakedAndLaughing about Jessica Messica, but was removed by the jannies. Messica has mentioned a few times that her and NAL have history from Gorlworld days. Messica was in a 'sober house' and was streaming, NAL reported her to the sober house that she was streaming and it got Messica into trouble. Mentioned something about NAL calling the police on her, but I might be hearing things.
The strangest feeling is going back after a few years, you're a whole different person from your experiences, and those left behind are the same as if time stood still.
I absolutely hate documentarians who insist on forcing themselves into their films. The purpose of a documentary is to observe and document. It's why the Trapped documentary is so fucking good. You never see the people behind the camera they just let the people of Casper speak without stepping into to tell you what to think or feel. When you are making yourself the star of it it just feels egotistical like you said. Like "Okay I'm documenting this thing BUT WHAT ABOUT ME!" Reminds me of the 2000s pop documentaries like Supersizeme or Micheal Moore's later stuff which were basically just thinly veiled propaganda pieces.
A lot of them have what are you talking about? I love the trapped doc but Frederick Wiseman has been making documentaries in the same vein since the 60s. Same with Errol Morris, the Maysles and many of the Herzog documentaries.
Some of them end up like Darfliny, others like Homeboy Scotty and some go the way of Warlord.
It's so crazy to watch the Trapped documentary then the first few seconds of the YourFavoriteSon doc. Cobes now is so far from what he was. It's like the pics of pretty girls in high school who get brainwashed in college. Jarring.
If you compare the speed at which Josh talks in the trapped documentary with a current video you can literally see the brain damage in real time. It's like two entirely different people.
