I don't know how I missed this on the first read, but this was absolutely beautiful. All the best to you and your wife in your grief, and it's incredible how we can effect each other in different ways across this big beautiful internet. A newly grieving father of an adult son touching the long grieving father of a lost infant is a something truly special and it warms this cold kiwi heart to have been able to read this. Thank you so much for sharing it.

There was no 'switch up'. Sometimes we were frustrated with Josh and wanted better for him. I'm sure his dad understood that more than anyone.

I think without context some of his relationships seemed off as well. I didn't know Josh loved being around old people. That explains the whole Walt and Angie thing. It was easy to think he was creeping on LN or getting pills from them if you didn't know that piece of deep lore because, honestly, who the fuck would want to hang around those two otherwise?
 
I was going to write some big gay post about how much I miss Cobes, and how much it broke my heart to watch the celebration of life with my fellow Kiwis yesterday. But no one wants to read that and it could basically be boiled down to:

Well, the chat from last night was crazy cool...at first I thought the video was gonna be weird but it ended great, joshes song at the end was fitting, definitely gave light on how things were, all I know is I'm still laughing at Josh being Josh and I'm trying to cut down on my drinking lol
I was always kind of in a situation where you got a can of of soup, some canned fish, random cheese packages, veggies, meats, crackers ECT and always made a goolash when times were tuff, now I know those are called food hacks, cheers you bloody wanker, you are loved.
(And ya why were those songs removed il message them if no one reports in a bit, always too wanted to talk about the dude behind beathbed tapes as we have not a good histor, but after last night..nail in the coffin and hands off)

I gotta say Clint did a damn good thing making that Celebration of Life send off.

I think we all just saw the side of Cobes that he wanted us to see. The tough Goth Bad Boy with magic powers, a crazy alcohol/drug tolerance, and a way with the ladies even though he was just waiting patiently in his bog den. We balked at his crazy food 'hacks', weird ass fucking music, deplorable guitar skills, and unhinged hot takes that echoed whoever was on his YouTube queue. He ruled his channel with an iron fist, banning anyone for any comment he didn't like and refusing to talk with anyone that didn't kiss his ass.

The subreddit was full of shitheads that wished ill on him and from what Clint said went well beyond the line. Here we were a bit more tempered, looping around whether Clint was a bad dad (turns out he was a great dad) and forays into previously undiscussed options of sending him to a group home. We would say how we loved 'the little tard' and how he was a smug asshole at times but harmless. For all the hours we watched, we never got to see who he really was beyond the occasional drunk melt down or unaware ranting at his door at the top of his lungs wasted. I used to joke that he was a method actor, and this shit was an artsy project.... and I think it kind of was.

Cobes was a flawed human, and we all knew he was projecting to the world what he wanted us to see.

Clint did a good thing letting us see behind the curtain. Letting us see he was kind as they say, acknowledging how he was difficult and as weird as we saw. Yup, he heard voices and made shit up. Sure, he made bad decisions and sure in fuck wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Yet, his family didn't cut him out and they surely loved him.

I think the Sexy Goth Bad left the world a better place.

P.S -- I think we can remove Perpetually Circling The Drain
