Why wouldn't it be "legal"? There's plenty of animation overhaul mods.
It's the whole model, but with edits, because it's not possible to make new animations for creature models and put them in the same way you can for humanoids. At least, I looked around a lot and I couldn't find any way to do it. Technically it's distributing a copyrighted game file (with an edit), so steam could get pissy about it.

Keeping a base running can be a pain, but you've gotta love the base-building part.

Thats a comfy base, are those plants part of a mod or are natural? every time i make my base near a cool tree it bannishes  Thank you Chris...

Built a base in the Fog Lands, once. You'd think it would be cool, but it was super fucking boring.
Build in The Pits, Unwanted Zone or near the Royal Valley if you want the full war zone experience, i had a bunch of ex slave bug boys brought to my sweat shop shanty town and they all became MEN in a week after the constant raiding, is entertaining, they rescue and heal eachother without micromanaging wich is nice, i recomend putting the rescue job first before the healing one to townies as characters in beds dont suffer from wound deterioration.

This has been so far my most entertaining run.

I prefer comfier bases, but I'll admit war zone bases are fun as fuck.

So what is everyones hopes for Kenshi 2?
I kinda hope scheduling is more like Rimworld scheduling, just so the characters you control feel less robotic and more alive.

Very doomish to be frank, Unreal engine + the lack of comunication and updates, i think it would have been better just either finish kenshi 1 or use an updated version of OGRE to make kenshi 2, the engine is not bad, is that the dev sucked at coding when doing this project, part of me wants that i get my socks blown out, but another part screams that is going to be shit...

I kind of feel they're going to do Early Access for kenshi 2, but I don't think the public will really get the chance to play it till probably 2027+. I still don't see it being playable to the public this year, maybe next year the earliest.

Remember when they said that they would build Kenshi 2 on Ogre and update changes to Kenshi 1 proper all the way until the release of 2? And then they moved to UE4 inexplicably? And then UE5 for no reason?

Also the workshop pisses me off. There's way too many reuploads by Chinese accounts and assets taken from other games for my liking and there is no easy way to filter them out to make searching any easier.

I did not know that, i knew he did a poll (on reddit, lol) that if he should continue with kenshi 1 or make kenshi 2 with the money he did to add everything he wanted on 1 and more with blackjack and hookers and a new engine, they, of course, voted for doing kenshi 2, i wasnt aware he originally intended to use OGRE again. I wonder if redditors convinced him to move to UE5.

Yeah that is annoying, some of those mods dont even work sometimes since they require another chinese mod that is not in the workshop or just doesnt exist, nexus doesnt have this problem, so you may want to check there first and then in the workshop if you dont see what you are looking for.

Here. The forum post that doomed Kenshi (A)

We are starting work now on Kenshi 2!
  • It will be set 1000 years in the past, during the time of the "Old Empire" and reveal more of the world's lore and history.
  • It will be based on the same code-base and engine.
  • The engine will be upgraded to the latest version of Ogre, which should drastically improve performance.
  • Why keep the same engine? Because a completely new engine would break everything and take another million years to finish. By sticking with the same code we are making the descision to prioritise gameplay instead of graphics. (Not to mention a much faster release date)
  • The work we do on the engine upgrade will also be applied to Kenshi 1 as a free update.
  • Other core improvements or small features achieved in Kenshi 2 could also potentially be applied to Kenshi 1 as free updates.
Chris knew that moving away from Ogre would just result in a prolonged development cycle and saw the advantage in sticking to it to also further improve Kenshi 1. But iirc, the decision to move to UE4 would be announced later in 2019, then they would move to UE5 in 2022. I don't think it was Reddit sycophants that convinced him, especially since he seemed against the idea. More willing to bet it was someone else at Lo-Fi who forced it, granted I don't know enough about the other employees to say. I know /keng/ didn't like the writer.

For those who've seen the various screenshots, all is lost. I blame Nat for now, but when it releases I'm blaming the creature they hired.

I can't believe Nat got away with it again.

Heard they're looking for a publisher, so the switch to the "shiny and detailed" UE4/UE5 might have been to try and attract one. Not entirely sure and it's mostly hearsay, but if they were looking for a publisher they might be trying to get a big name one, one that probably won't even look twice at the Ogre engine before being repulsed by it and demanding an engine change.

I remember that thread, i dont know if it was the same guy or another that was an unironic troon that was seething on his twitter "joking" to make kenshi 2 unmodable because of the chuds (he never mentioned the thread directly but worded it in a way that was clear it was refering to us, also chud didnt existed as a word at the time, truly we lived like animals.)

I swear to god, Chris hiring help is both the best and the worst thing to ever happen to this game. Not surprised in the slightest his account is set to protected. You just know that this is the sort of dude that seethes over all the mods and comments elevating Holy Nation and showing Holy Lord Phoenix (blessed be his name) the respect he deserves.

I honestly have no hope for Kenshi 2. This is because the Unreal Engine is infamous for fucking over modders when they decide to tweak the engine for any reason. Then there is the simple fact if they did any improvements upon 1's gameplay. There's tons of shit that should have been a feature. Such as rideable mounts or in the modding end, the ability for modders to add their own combat styles, adding new sounds and of course, being able to change the terrain of the world.

That said, I am willing to forgive those missed features as long as they keep the brutal aspect of the game and how its a viable option to put someone in the peeler to get rid of them.

Meanwhile, Star Sector is doing quite well... as well as a bunch of games published on STEAM and GoG that doesn't use Unreal. If anything, OGRE can do more things, its just they want something shiny and new which doesn't translate to good.
