Found this game through Ssseth and it taps right into my autism.
Now I want to roll with a skeleton crew but there aren't more than 3 skeleton recruits in the game besides the generic randomly generated recruits (good luck with RNG) and it's slightly annoying.
Holing up in Black Desert City, researching, biding my time.

There's a mod on the Steam workshop called "Skeleton NPC hires" I'd recommend, and also "The Forgotten Ones - Recruitable Error Skeletons" which allows you to recruit
the error code skellys that are in the Reprogramming workshop northeast of Black Desert City

Well, those poor boyos are already dead, they fought valiantly to protect me from metal spiders. But I'll check out the mod. Thanks.

The only problem I tend to have with Kenshi is it gets a bit repetitive.

The base building is kinda just making an area to craft in, and the only reasons to craft are to equip your dudes with slightly less than max power gear (after training the skills for the better part of an ingame year) and making money (which is basically worthless once you have a good base anyway).

It's a game you can play for a thousand hours (and I have), but eventually you run out of new shit to do. Really hoping the sequel has a little bit more going on so I can die fused to my computer monitor.

Gotta say, Kenshi is one of my favorite games I've ever played. Start as one or two people, or up to six. Train them from useless nobodies into Gods. Mod the shit out of it to make it amazing (I highly suggest Genesis World Overhaul mod which adds tons of smaller mods, also dark UI) and conquer the world after building a city. You can be a small party of adventurers, or an entire empire. I love the grinding and everything.

I remember when I first played this game I was shocked by how many things you're just able to do. I started off in the desert and saw a group of slavers knock out a bunch of farmers and haul them off to the city. Just for fun, I decided to grab a farmer with them and take it back to the slavers just to see what would happen. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that I was also able to sell people to the slave traders, and make semi-decent money while doing it.

And that can be applied to basically anything you see in the game. If you're wandering around and see a group of people doing something that seems interesting, whether it be bounty hunting, smuggling drugs or running a weapon a shop, you can do it yourself with only a couple exceptions (like cannibalism). It's really weird to play an open-world game that actually feels like an open-world where you can do just about anything.

Kenshi has made my life spiral out of control for quite some time to the point i've learned to a T how to operate, the best places to settle down, weapons and everything just because i want to anhialate the entire world for shits and giggles. Build a base in Venge and see people get burnt to death trying to attack you. Go to Gut and make a fortune by selling the eggs of man eating giraffes. Lead a crusade against cannibals and exterminate them. And i will say that the game is definetly more fun to play if you don't settle and you go around as a group of adventurers or nomads rathern that settling and have the easy way making armor, weapons and hoarding food like a Mukbanger. You always need to carry your people to safety and have people defend them, always need plenty of money to feed your troopers...

Plus, doing bounty hunting and fucking over every faction in the game is fun as hell.

Edit: i would also be willing to share all i know about the game. So far, i'm almost 900 hours in and in my current campaing so far i've anhialated the southern United Cities , the swampers and all bandits south of the Holy nation. I won't mess with the Shek or the Crab Raiders because i like them tho.

Made a base in the Fog Islands before I knew what was there. When I saw what happened to people when they got knocked out it just made me want to live there more. I don't have to pay taxes and most visitors get eaten before they make it to the gate.
I made a base on Fishman Island after me and my crew cut down all of the fishmen. Every last one. We hunted them to extinction. It’s actually a great spot. Nobody bothers you for taxes or has you pray to Okran or anything. Also, the narrow bridge to land is a great choke point, which means nobody can ever fuck with you.

I did this a long time ago. Fishman Island is essentially the best place to be if you want to be left the fuck alone. No taxes or prayer, no bandits, fertile land, plenty of water, decent mineral resources and when you arrive you essentially have armies of training dummies to do whatever the fuck you want to do. The main problem is that you are fara way from everything and you need to haul your ass to Catun if you want to make money, as well as the problem of acid rain every now and then.

Also, the fishmen aren't per se extinct. They will spawn again once you leave the island because their spawn radius is just too far away from you and therefore, they don't spawn in the island as long as your guys are there (learned this when i settled in Gut and i thought i hunted the Beak Things into extinction. The game just makes the hostile squads spawn further away from you every time).

Other great places to settle are:
-Fog Islands: There is an enormous plateu up to the north of Mongrel. Has everything you need: plenty of wind, fertile land, mineral nodes and huge space. The main drawback is lack of water but if you have wells 2, no problem with that. And the armies of Fogmen will whack to death or at least soften anyone that comes bother you, which means no traders as well.
-Vain: I found a sweet spot between the border of Vain and the Swamp. Has 4 iron nodes, swamp and arid terrain (can plant everything except cotton and greenfruits), plenty of water, wildlife to hunt for skin and meat and good space to build. Main drawback is that you will have the Black Dragon Ninjas coming every now and then to steal your shit, but you can solve it by putting Dimak and Buzan into a peeling machine. As well, you get craploads of traders, no taxes and you are in the middle of the map, giving you eays access to towns to sell junk, smuggle hash or go for squaddies.
-Cannibal Plains: The cannibal plains is my second favourite place to settle. Fertile green land, lots of water for farming, good mineral resources, you're close to the fishing village to sell stuff and you have roving squads of training dummies that will soften anyone that comes to mess with you. The main problem is poor wind, which will make the use of generators for power a must. Also, traders will come every once in a while, so don't expect to buy or sell a lot of stuff on your base. Darkfinger is also a good option but only if you want to be closer to the United Cities without having to pay taxes.
-Leviathan Coast: The same as the cannibal plains, but now add the wildlife to the mix. The leviathans will draw the aggro of everyone that comes to fuck with you, usually ending up poorly for the invaders. Also, there is lots of ancient labs in here, so you can get AI cores and ancient books from them as well as lots of junk to sell.
-Venge: This place is if you like danger or you just want to be ludicrous. Venge is the place with the death lasers, which means that whoever comes to attack you will end up with a hell of a tan. The region is also extremely rich in minerals and stone, which means you will build a base extremely fast. Main problems are poor soil and not much water... As well as the death lasers, but you can just pop dustcoats and crab helmets for everyone and you're good. I settled once here and it was great to see Reavers come to raid me and arrive to my base with just 10 health.
-Gut: This place is downright my favourite. It's in UC territory, which means the tax collector will go every week to bother you, but only if he manages to tredge through hordes of man eating giraffes. This place is infested with them to the point that when you build your base, you will have a horde of them coming to bother you constantly. As well as having abundance of wildlife to hunt, this place has great land, water, good wind and huge amount of mineral resources. I settled a hash smuggling operation in here and i can assure you the tax collector never made it to my gates. Also, you can make a fortune by stealing eggs from the giraffes and selling them in Trader's Edge.

Edit: Also, if anyone has more questions about Kenshi i'm open. Despite all the games tutorials and descriptions, there are many things that aren't explained like the fact that you need twice the weight value of your weapon in Strength in order to wield it at optimal speed.

So Beak Things are a part of the Gutters faction. Apparently, you can kidnap/knock out No-Face, drop him into slavery and buy his freedom over and over again in Eyesocket to ally yourself with the Gutters making Beak Things non hostile to you. Steal eggs? You mean harvest them from your incredibly dangerous, free range giraffe cattle.

I want to try this myself sometime soon. I imagine the Gut region only gets sweeter after that.

Tbh i never tried that trick even if i heard about it a long time ago because it looked way too cheesy. But if it works and you can have the Beak Things to protect you, that makes Gut even better since i think because the spawn distance increase only works if the spawned groups are hostile, meaning that Beak things can potentially roam outside your base and eat the face of anyone that comes bother you.

Still, you better have a good sniper with the Eagle's Cross and you better hope that they don't instakill No-Face with a lucky shot.
Everybody knows robots are best boys.
Skeletons are good, but definetly not the best. They have higher health, they don't need to eat, they don't need to swim, the are the best martial artists in the game and they are inmune to weather effects like acid rain and gas clouds. But they cannot wear helmets, undershirts or shoes, they have the worst combat speed in the game, it's incredibly expensive to heal them, their max health gets lower every time they take damage unless you get a Skeleton repair bed and cleavers and blunt weapons deal a considerable amount of bonus damage to them (specially the Paladin's Cross. That thing will wreck your skelly bois really fast). This last one combined with not wearing helmets means that a few lucky hits can down your skeleton very fast.

Everybody knows robots are best boys. For some reason, Kenshi kinda reminds me of RimWorld.
In a way it is fairly similar to RimWorld. It's an RTS RPG combo, there's a significant emphasis on crafting, there are heavy survival aspects, multiple factions with diplomacy functions, and detailed health systems. About the only massive differences between the two are the visuals, the depth of the RPG elements (much deeper in Kenshi), and the fact that base building is a must in RimWorld, but optional in Kenshi. The last part is kind of arguable though since to get to really dangerous areas in Kenshi, you're going to need a well trained no shit army, and for that, you pretty much do need a base since it's hard to support a large army inside of the NPC towns without at least buying up buildings in town to use as housing.

Time to necro this fuccboi

I'm currently doing a skeleton empire campaign with the Skeleton Empire Rebuilt mod. My current objective is to train up a fast attack squad for quickly taking out diplo NPCs so im using martial arts to train dodge and dex making them hit fast and hard to hit and the results thus far

For those who don't know, martial arts deals little bleed damage so everyone with a large blood pool has basically had their limbs blended off. With current skills and mechanical augments you can hit around 150ish per hit so you can basically 1-2 shot limbs on human characters. So yeah this was a successful test on a 2 squad Holy Nation patrol with skimmers thrown in I'd call a success thus far. Skeleton Martial artists are also OP because they take zero limb damage by default when hitting armored opponents without needing martial art bindings or other fist protection armor.

Also, the main thing that makes skellies the bets martial artists is that while other races base their damage on Strength + Martial arts skill, Skeletons add dex to the mix, which means they also do slashing damage resulting in them tearing limbs off instead of breaking the legs of everyone they punch.

The only (and very small) drawback of skeletons is the martial artists binds. They cannot wear this pieces of equipment that boosts all damage dealt by the character. No matter if you punch people or you use weapons or a crossbow, your damage will be boosted by 5%.

@Malagor the dank omen
Today, I goofed around a little bit in Blender and the FCS and figured out how to mod entirely new weapons into the game from scratch. :smug:

Blender is so damn good these days, I'm amazed that it's free, tbh.

bumping this thread, I just started my second playthrough, and I'm doing everything different from my first one. The first time, I had settled in the southern wetlands on an island close to shore and was barely harassed even though I had made enemies of everyone but the shek. This time I settled in the Northern Coast and its nonstop action. The first raid the HN led against me, I was reinforced midbattle by a wandering herd of goats that started fighting the HN soldiers. What a great game :story:

The little stories that happen spontaneously are the best.

When I was a little scrawny scorchlander, some crazy man in a white dress and bucket helmet started running after me. I got scared and run away. He kept the pace for almost half in-game day. Then I gave up running and prepared to be beaten. But the man just wanted to give me a bit of food, a holly book and bless me. That was... heartwarming.

After training with iron rocks in my backpack and beating packs of beakthings. My scorchlander became swole enough to do some serious bounty. So I bough a nice hat and a katana and I managed to kill the giant fishman at the fog islands. In a battle that lasted 5 days in game. And I still need to find someone weathy enough to pay my bounty in this miserable world.

I eventually got bored because I recruited too many people, most of them terrible at combat but good at other things and I failed at building an outpost for them. This time I wanto to focus on exploring the world as a lone wanderer or as a small group and bounty hunting, settling only after going through all the map.

I started this game during vacation, am now ~200 hours in, modded, with ~100 people and a very cool outpost.

Sadly I've apparently overstretched what this game can do and am crashing A LOT.

I too love this game, and I'm currently playing it far too much.

I go through a cycle about once per year of reinstalling this game, binging it for a week or three, then getting burned out by the glitchy jankiness and tedious gameplay. Then after I've forgotten how obnoxious this game can be to play, I get nostalgia for the good times and the freedom and reinstall it. Currently I haven't quite been reminded yet of how shit this game is but its bound to happen soon.
