This is the same fanbase that is so fragile that Archie dedicated a whole issue to explain why the main character was redesigned for Sonic Adventure

it was actually that, with the visual change, came a personality change....She became way too bubbly, more along the lines of Amy Rose, and the inclusion of a weapon she never needed before. They weakened her in the reboot to the point that fans who knew her personality prior to the changes couldn't stand what had been done to her. It wasn't the clothing..the clothing is fine...it was the blatant change in personality that put her nearly on par with Amy Rose in terms of childish mentality that put people off...and then that one ignorant shitgibbon (Jon Gray) who wrote "The Slap" and tried to pin it on someone else. Karl Bollers has denied writing the slap in the first place.

Yeah I can't blame Jon Gray for this one; the people who had the last word about everything the characters did was Sega and ever since Penders poisoned the well characters can't be characters anymore, they became borderline generic, not that the writers/artists didn't try (Sally x Nicole for exemple, which I'm fine with because it was cute and sorta made sense? More than Rotor being gay out of nowhere at least.)

They also had to come up with a reason as to why they redesigned Evil Sonic so that he actually looked like an Original Character (...well, as close to an original character that a Green Sonic in red shades and a Guy Fieri jacket can be, anyways).
So, Evil Sonic took the phrase "You and I aren't so different after all" a little too much to heart and decided to change his look in some way. This was after he slept with Bunnie Rabbot by the way (no I'm not joking).

Anyways, he found Rouge the Bat and the two went looking for the Master Emerald. Also it's heavily implied that Scourge wants to fuck Rouge. Anyways, the two find the thing and, while Rouge distracts Knuckles' dad, Evil Sonic makes a beeline for and powers himself up using the Master Emerald. This turned him green for some reason. He was basically the same guy inside, but he referred to himself as "A real Scourge", and that's how he got his name.

This entire thing is objectively about as dumb as it sounds.

To add to it, the green came from Scourge getting a chaos infused fisting from Locke mid-transformation. That and Scourge needed ANYTHING different so he just wasn't Sonic in a jacket.

Because I brought up that Ken was a hypocrite for complaining about someone stealing his character even when the resemblance was that both characters were skunks while Ken himself made an expy of Dave from 2001 a Space Odyssey down to the fucking name.
