Well Ken did it again
short story short that Penders went to ComicCon to meet up of what left of his fans and offered free sketchers to them

some were horrible

What makes this more interesting is that he copied it from a preexisting official art, what you may ask? it's Sonic Chronicles

The irony is amazing

Lara Su's Big Adventure (or whatever the fuck it's called) is close to becoming the comic book world's equivalent to The Day the Clown Cried: a big fucking disaster that no one will get to see.

After all this time he still hasn't figured out how to draw appealing Sonic characters? Christ on a cracker.

It just boggles my mind that anyone, especially someone who was actually in the industry at one point, could go so many years and never improve their art.

Kinda makes me not respect him as an artist at this point, despite the fact my childhood was based around this person's art or writing--all of it being terrible.

I mean, he's making me look like I would've had a chance working for Archie Comics... (if they were still in business)

It just boggles my mind that anyone, especially someone who was actually in the industry at one point, could go so many years and never improve their art.

Artists usually stagnate when allowed to be commercially successful without improving. Most creators spend their entire career under (typically self-induced) pressure to generate new ideas and exceed their previous works, but guys like Penders found (and/or lucked into) a formula early into their careers that could maintain a guaranteed (but static) level of success. His career post-Archie is an off-brand clone of his work for Archie.

Ken is ironically representative of his own industry, which died as a mainstream commercial artform because the major publishers themselves became stagnant. Marvel and DC are, of course, infamous for recycling plots and then rebooting characters when they've written themselves into a corner. Webcomics and newspaper comic strips, meanwhile, speak for themselves.

His artstyle was always unkempt to me which makes me wonder why people fawn all over his writing while never mentioning his rather meh art. It's by far not the worse but he draws the characters in a rather goofy way like goofier than normal Sonic characters already look.

Thing is that webcomics are independent to the artist so whatever fuckery they do is all on them. Problem I've seen with Ken is that somehow people try to see him as the victim of a bigger game but the true test is to see what they do with their own vehicle. His vanity thing the Lara Su Chronicles hasn't moved an inch from what I've seen.

Maybe he should use those YouTube tutorials on how to draw Toei Sonic.

I mean for the longest time, Rob Liefeld's anatomy and art hasn't improved until like almost thirty years later.

Anyone interested in a thread about Penders work at Archie comics? we could critique his art and laugh/cringe/rage at how bad his writing is and how he kept fucking over the other writer (Yes it would be in the appropriate subforum), i would include Fleetway Sonic comics to show how contemporary comics were writen and post some of Ian Flynn work to show how the comics were eventually salvaged

I feel like art critics are all this thread has going for it anymore, and he hasn't been fairly active. I'd ask a mod.

Honestly I'm only here to be appalled that I used to like his crap... other than the Sonic LIVE comic. That was a horrible idea. I've nit-picked his art plenty, but some of it I dare not comment because the images speak for themselves.

I was moderately interested in this... concept he went. I used to read the entire Knuckles comic series that went on, but his art always made me uncomfortable and I swear I only bought the comics for the cover. Pat Spaz is just amazing.

I asked the a mod and got the ok, i'll first get a reading list so i'll post thing in a chronological order and find a database with Sonic comics

Do not stare directly into the autistic singularity, lest you become autistic yourself. Good luck.
