I've been following Penders' actions for a while now. I haven't really been following Sonic for years, and I never really read the comics, but the quality of his art, his gigantic ego, and his attempt at using a character he does not own the rights to have made him hard for me to ignore.

Penders is a pariah and infamous even in the "support your fellow creators, no matter what they do" hugbox of the comic industry. That says something.

the artwork he intends to use for "book 1" of the comic, as much as I take the piss out of Deviant art I admit I could find 50 artists on there who could do a better job.

I hate when comics seem to use and abuse dodge & burn...it makes creepy echidna girl here look even more plastic and fake. If it's not that, it's poor color blending (white for highlights and black for shadows) that's to blame. And I don't get the stock photo mountain - just seems jarring. Why the hell am I critiquing this? :3
 
That is one ugly character design and an even uglier outfit (it's a swimsuit. With POUCHES on the side). I was wondering if it would be possible to draw it in a way that didn't make me wish I was blind

So who the fuck is it aimed at then? I can't be fans of the sonic comic since Penders has burned all his bridges with the fans of that comic when he stole half the cast and stopped Archie or Sega from using them and I doubt that its new readers since he seems to be selling it on established characters, (albeit ones with half arsed name changes and horrific new designs).

The cover doesn't have the bright colours and cartoony designs to attract kids and is to badly drawn for an adult reader to wanna pick it up.
 
My question is: why are they all echindnas?
Does he really want to fuck Knuckles but he doesn't want it to be gay so he made a bunch of "sexy" lady Knuckles?
 
Who wants to bet that Sega and Archie comics never let their writers have ownership of their work again after Penders' lawsuit, he might not be as deluded as Chris but he's probably made work harder for his former co workers after his abuse of the creative freedom given to him.

I'm pretty sure they didn't with Penders, either. There was just some snafu with record-keeping and they couldn't actually prove the agreement. This sounds like some really amateur hour bullshit to me and probably the basis of a malpractice lawsuit against their own lawyer, unless they didn't even have one entering into the agreement and maintaining their records.

The whole affair was fucking bizarre, and did no favors for anyone.

Nobody in their right mind will ever deal with Penders again, as he's obviously a lunatic.
