Guess what? She was also my college proffesor. Who hated her job and quit just because someone tried to help her with how to work. Trust me, she dosent even know how to teach
I just discovered this thread. Kate is a former close friend of mine, who is sadly very ill. When she was well, she was a lovely person overall. It saddens me greatly to see what has happened to her. She was a talented writer and a generous person who once let me crash on her couch when I needed a place to be. While she was always a feminist, she was never this far off the deep end.
To confirm: yes she did serve in the army and she was a chaplain’s assistant. She was committed while in the army, and she told me when she was well she was sectioned out of it because of it. She does have army benefits, insurance and the GI bill. Her husband was abusive, though I believe she has extreme delusions of him stalking her. (I’ve learned to take anything she says with a great deal of salt as I find she appears to be fairly delusional when she is more manic. She once described her roommate situation with my friends as a Christian Scientest Burning Man commune which was pretty sad but funny to me. This has elements of truth to it, but not entirely correct. One person there was a Christian scientist and went to burning man events. Her other roommate was a parent merely intrigued by the idea of going to burning man.) Her family was indeed a mess, and caused her a great deal of trauma in her younger years. As for the apparent cirpo poisoning I’ve never really been sure. I think it was side effects from a gall bladder removal and the subsequent improper diet and precautions she didn’t take after the surgery.
I was never told her mental health diagnosis, though I know she had one (I would highly suspect bipolar disorder or schizoaffective disorder bipolar type) and seemed fairly stable when medicated. She took a good deal of mental health medication then got off of them I would estimate around 2014 after she moved in with a Christian Scientist friend of ours as this is when her behavior became increasingly erratic. She was much more lucid when depressed but also….suicidal ideation isn’t exactly the ideal of wellness either. We did try at several points to get her help, but well….you can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped. Anyone who tried to even suggest she was ill and needed help was cut off.
Kate tends to change ideologies and identities at a fairly quick pace, likely due to her illness. She is currently identifying as a vegan republican who thinks all illnesses are cured through proper nutrition. Overall seeing this makes me sad and I wish if she sees this she knows she is cared about and those who love her wish she would get help.
