I'm not really sure if this counts as a "game". It's really more of a visual novel, but it does have some gamey elements to it. So if thread is moved to somewhere else, I don't mind.

Anyway, back in January 2012, this little gem made it's official debut on the internet. Initially, a lot of people, including myself, were kinda skeptical when we learned what it was about. Essentially, it's a visual novel that kinda works like a dating sim. Except it's with physically disabled girls. It didn't really help that the people who made this happen to be regulars on the infamous 4Chan.

Turns out, it was actually quite a bit more than that. Unlike most dating sims, this one doesn't have stats, side quests, or a bunch of stuff you would expect from the genre. Instead, it's basically a "Choose Your Own Adventure" kind of story that happens to have really likable characters. Nearly all the main characters have some form of physical disability, but they aren't defined by it. Hell, even the main character I feel is actually pretty well defined and goes through quite a bit of development.

Depending on your choices, you can end up befriending one of the girls and go down her respective story arc. They're all definitely worth going through. Although I'll admit, some routes I didn't quite enjoy as much as others.

But yeah, I definitely enjoyed reading this visual novel and was actually impressed that people from 4Chan would actually make something like this. I mean yeah, there are some pretty explicit sex scenes with each of the girls, but I feel that they are done kinda tastefully. You can turn them off, but I recommend keeping them on as they add to the story I feel.

The game and it's soundtrack are free to download right here on the official website if you want to try it out:

Hanako is best waifu. I haven't even done the other girls' routes.

Yeah, Hanako's my favorite too.

Emi is probably my second favorite girl in the game. She seems incredibly fun to be around and I love the banter between her and Hisao.

This game is pretty rad. I'm generally repelled by VNs but I found the writing in KS to be quite good.

Also, anyone who thinks Hanako isn't the best of the routes is worse than Hitler and Chris. :alog:

>tfw you're the only one who went with qt European waifu.

I really liked Emi. I did Rin as well, but I ended up breaking the relationship :'(

I was incredibly impressed by it. Like, it's incredibly impressive that a dating sim focused around high school girls with disabilities is actually good, but it really is just that well written. All of the characters are actually characters and the storyline actually matters. Even the sex scenes didn't feel gratuitous because there's just so much buildup to them. I really enjoyed the protagonist's character arc of accepting his own condition, too.

I've only done the Hanako and Rin stories, but I really need to go back in and do the rest of them.

This picture with the protagonist (who has a heart condition) really gives me feels for some reason. Could be the wordplay.

10 years already? Time really flies since I first played it and look at it, a forgotten thread about the game on the farms!

This VN for some reason came to my mind recently (as a palate cleanser after the Validate demo) and what a perfect time to celebrate a (late) 10th anniversary, it is not a perfect VN but is pretty memorable and lo and behold, it is still it on my old mac. I am replaying it right now and stills hold up. For a collaborative effort they did a great job, specially with all the changes to the music, the story and art the novel suffered between all the revisions and the final release. Sad that the repackage of the working pre-alpha could be lost to time, since all of the routes were completely different (and it had some really dark moments) from what we got. Playing what I could of the pre-alpha somehow gave me an explanation as to why Misha never got an official route.

For me this game was a growing up trip since It got me hooked into VN for a while. I kind of got attached to it as I was having a hard time then, so seeing how different the characters got different stories from the prototype to the final release was an avalanche of feels to me because I grew up of some troubles and mistakes as I was reading it.

Here are the girls from the prototype to the final build. I also found interesting at the time that Emi got a style change mid development on the pre-alpha.

I kinda dig the Prototype versions of the girls, they give me early 2000's budget game vibes.

EDIT: Mistakes because I suck at proofreading
