I didn't see a thread for the Katamari series so here's one.

Discuss the franchise and the games here.

Who is your favorite cousin?
Which is your favorite game?
Did you enjoy the new game "Once Upon a Katamari"?

My favorite cousin is Nik, and favorite game is the latest one Once Upon a Katamari. The new game is fantastic and I highly recommend it for any Katamari fans.

Played and enjoyed all of them except for Beautiful Katamari since I didn't have a 360. Dipp and Mu are probably my favorite cousins. The new one was good but the physics felt a little rougher compared to the old games, things like wall climbing and the threshold for bouncing off of things just seemed off the entire time I was playing it. I also got stuck between things more than I have in any other of the games combined. The stages were kind of mid as well, some of them being too easy and a lot just weren't memorable. That didn't stop me from doing S-Ranks and all the crowns since it was still enjoyable all the way through.

Still good music which was nice to see, but I think the OST was a bit weaker than previous games as well. I did like the Sotaisei Riron lady's track though.

We Love Katamari is my favorite PS2 game, and one of my favorite games period.

I love how bizarre this series is, the gameplay is enjoyable, and the music is amazing (shout out to Angel Rain from We Love Katamari for just how beautiful that song is).

Haven't gotten around to playing Once Upon A Katamari yet, but I'm looking forward to playing it at some point.

My favorite cousin is Kinoko.

Katamari Forever is peak katamari. Being able to roll up the entire universe will always be satisfying.

Once upon a Katamari was fun, wish there was more content (could use more levels, needs more presents). Had a glitch happen two or three times where my controls stopped working and I couldn't do anything but restart the level. I have yet to try out the multiplayer so hopefully it's alright. Being able to have more freedom customizing the cousins was a nice treat. Bear Cow was awful, as usual. By awful I mean I dislike that level in every game, the level itself was fine. Anyone who likes Bear Cow is a masochist.

The soundtrack is so good. I'll put it on when I'm working on projects at times, it's nicely upbeat and cheerful. Here are a couple of mixes I'll listen to:

I think my favorite songs are cherry blossom color season, que sera sera, the jazz arrangement of katamari on the rocks, and alien. Alien is especially too weird and funky for me to not like it.

Same! Loved to stick the mushroom present on him. I'm also partial to Daisy.

Just beat Once Upon a Katamari and I enjoyed it a lot

I wish it had more levels, especially in the modern day, but man, I just missed rolling shit up

My favorite cousin is Nai-Nai because she looks like her whole existence is agony

I'm really enjoying Once Upon a Katamari. I literally saw that there was a new game and bought it immediately.

Of course, the series has never been as brilliant an experience as the first game was. (Though We Love Katamari is the superior game.) You can't repeat something that bizarre and creative and expect it to hit the same way. Keita Takahashi is brilliant, and I need to play some of his other games.

My favorite cousin is Foomin, especially since I just looked her up and found this:

She is named after Fumie Hosokawa, a kyonyu (huge breasts) idol.

I consider myself a Katamari Krackhead. The game is really fun and the different eras that gives some fresh design. Also the Katamari Forever is one of the few games I played alot on the PS3.

I saw We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie was on sale (and still is) as a digital download for $10. Can't beat that, so I bought it.

The movement in Reroll is so much more satisfying that it's shocking. I'm still having fun with Once Upon a Katamari, but I would be dishonest if I said it controlled as well. (The gameplay is often much more frustrating.) Even the hitboxes seem less forgiving. Which is bizarre... you would expect them to use the same underlying architecture.

And it really is true that the series was superior under Keita Takahashi's direction. As far as I can tell, he wrote all of the King's dialogue and the item descriptions, and it's all that much more amusing and charming. The King feels like a coherent (if completely absurd) character, and that character comes through in every line from him. I had forgotten how ridiculous and darkly funny those cutscenes are.

However, dedicating a button to the dash move was an excellent idea that OUaK implemented (or maybe an earlier game did that, I don't know), and it's hard to go back to the regular input.

The Royal Reverie levels are... fine? I really wish Takahashi had written the words around them. The idea of watching the Prince's monsterous grandfather interacting with a young KoaC sounds like fun... but of course, there's barely anything there, and the levels are just rearranged levels from the main game. There's not even any new music. A missed opportunity, but at least it's new content.

I probably won't get the original game's Reroll. I don't think it has any new content. But I feel like buying it and pushing it on family. What a great series.

As fun as the PS3 game and the 360 game were, I still think Katamari 1 + 2 are the only truly good games in the series.

Both are best played in an emulator as you can transfer memory card data from 1 into 2.

Finally rolled up the cowbear and got S ranks on some of the harder levels like the sweets level. The new game isn't hard but I wouldn't call it too easy like other people might have indicated. Still a fun experience all around.
