Bet you guys have not heard of this one. Growlaser 2 on the ps2. Tried emulating it but it keeps crashing during battles. Never seen something like this happen before.
I fucking loved Growlanser 2. Mostly because the art, because Satoshi Urushihara does godtier T&A, but the combat system is pretty good and there's lots of diverging story paths. Try maybe capping the framerate.

I know this isn't the Yakuza thread, but can somebody explain to me why the hell they would make that franchise into a JRPG? Is it any good?
Yakuza itself is already an action JRPG, turning it into a turn based RPG isn't much of a difference, and can generate some hype as change for change's sake. Game itself is good but lots of political events since it was released and mishandling on the franchise since then really soured it.

How political one needs to be to ruin a fucking JRPG of all things? I'm not really familiar with the franchise, I thought it was soap opera kind of bullshit(at least past the first 3 games) rather than a serious political drama that could get anyone offended.
I really need to take a look at this game, maybe the idea of turning Yakuza into a turn based game might not be too surprising for some but to me it's one of those decisions that is either brilliant or pants on head retarded, and I want to see which one.

It's not some grand political statement, but the main plot is fairly political with the villain essentially piggybacking his political career over outlawing "grey zones". Those grey zones are romanticised as being "full of good people" despite being in practice organized crime, prostitution, illegal immigration and homeless (no drugs though since that's a bigger red line than sex trafficking).

Earlier Yakuza didn't have this problem since glamouring organised crime is a universal trope, and the usual government corruption just adds stakes. But with encroaching urban decay it feels fake.

Gameplay wise it doesn't change much besides making fights longer and more quirky.

Edit:
@Gravityqueen4life it's been 20 years since I played. Even without a guide I was able to get a pretty conclusive ending, but it is always annoying to get an important character killed and get a random ass faceless guard NPC as a replacement. So pick your poison.

>Calls JRPGS Slop
>Simps for the"MUH DEPRESSION AND EXCAPISM" French JRPG that includes the press X to do thing that the SNES Mario RPG did *checks date* before I was in Kindergarten.
High pitched Owo squeeling from teenage characters who all rook[sic] the same is indeed peak gaming. And the fact that in the end I always have a boxing match with God for some reason.
Japanesuuu so originar[sic]!

Also, the press X is mega autistic. What are you even trying to say? That the game isn't original because you have to press buttons?

People act like "Oh my god press a button at the right time to dodge in an RPG" is some massive innovation when it's been around since the fucking SNES, and quite fucking frankly I would rather punch god again than "Muh Depression" shit. It is an okay game but people act like it is the second coming of Christ to try and own the Animes.

Has it ever occurred to you that you are acting like a massive faggot and not convincing anyone of your views due to behaving in a retarded fashion?

Just fuck off already.

I already made this joke in the OP. You're about a year late.

Again, there are E33 fans in the thread (I LIKE THE GAME IT WAS FUN WHEN I PLAYED IT DESPITE MY COMPLAINTS), we don't hate this game because it's "anti-anime" or whatever. In any case, you'd have to bring your sperging up with the director of the game, he's as much of a JRPG-fag as the rest of the people in this thread.

In other words: Panzer Dragoon Saga is a lot of fun. I finished up Disc 2 last time I played and I still can't believe Team Andromeda put PD1 - PDSaga in the span of three years with vast major improvements in gameplay and presentation between each subsequent entry. Something like that can basically never happen in the game's industry today. My only real complaint is that I wish the random encounters had the same enemy design as the bosses because figuring out the mechanics of the boss fights are a lot of fun. You'd be surprised with how much you can do with so little in ways of attacks. The water area also had a bit too much backtracking but it's made up by how gorgeous the game looked while going around the vast area. The Saturn was just a far prettier console than the PSX and N64 and it's not even close. Look at those damn skyboxes!

I also couldn't imagine what it was like to be an American Sega Saturn owner back in the day because it was literally either this or like two or three actually good Saturn games. American Saturn fans kind of got screwed out of 75% of the console's library. No wonder why people thought the library was worse than the N64's for a long time.

SEGA hiring the idiot who undermined the first year of the NA PlayStation library really fucked them in the long term. He was the one who vetoed the US release of King of Fighters '95 and the RAM carts, because he hated 2D games, and we all know how well THAT move played into the strengths of the Saturn.

Sure, comparing the RAM cart and the cart-assisted disc games to the 32X would have happened in the games press of the time, but when that is where the bulk of the platform's support is coming from, you are majorly sabotaging yourself. And then there were things like Deep Fear not getting a US release, when Resident Evil 2 was a huge hit for PlayStation and Deep Fear was made in English and would not have required much work to localize while the platform was in a drought.

I've been playing the hell out of Granblue Fantasy Relink for the last two weeks and have had a blast. Am I understanding it right in that Monster Hunter is kind of like relink? I feel like I'll want more once I beat Relink's expansion that just came out.

There are some similarities between the two titles but the gameplay pacing is quite different from one another. Definitely worth a try if you want more fighting a target to get loot, etc. Though Monster Hunter is more focused on gear progression with various skills attached to them rather than a character level up system, The exceptions to that are Monster Hunter Rise with a skill system and Generations/Generations Ultimate with a style and skill system. Also in most games you can get a little cat hunting partner called a Felyne that you can equip gear on, change around its skills and it levels up.

The two modern titles I'd recommend are Rise and World. Rise is much faster paced than World, personally I enjoyed Rise more as a long time player of the series but World is solid. Generations Ultimate can be emulated with net play also and that too is a great title if you're willing/able to emulate the Switch. If you want to go further back 4 Ultimate via 3DS emulation or Portable 3rd on PSP are also an options. Games before that might be a bit rough to play for newcomers to the series though Freedom Unite is one of my favorites of all time.

If you enjoyed Relink then I would recommend Monster Hunter Wilds. Progression and gameplay loop is nearly identical. It was pretty fun.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is at least as good as the Cybersleuth duology, and I would recommend springing for the Outer Dungeons DLC that gives you the grind-reducing dungeons to make digivolution less time-consuming. The graphics are really fucking good, and the writing is good, with a plot line that has been unpredictable and interesting, and even darker and more twisted than Cybersleuth.

Who are these people?
Are you making imaginary adversaries and fighting them?
Doesn't DSP do the same?
Just saying...

No.
I'm here to shit on JRPG and that's ontopic discussion.
The fact that you, a faggot anime avatar, doesn't like it and bleeds from the ass, is a bonus.
Deal with it, nigger.

Edit or ask a mod if you want this thread to be a circle jerk.
I'm serious.
As long as it's "general", that means I can drop by, take a steamy dump on the chest of JRPG and it's fans, and I'm on topic.

You are one fragile little faggot. Go to Pinterest, I hear they’re nice over there.

Been playing Hacker's Memory on my brothers PS5 and as much as i'm having fun with it, goddamn does the game get grindy. Having to Digivolve and DeDigivolve my mons so their ABI gets higher, then having to stick them on the island to train, but then i also have to worry about their CAM stat going down if they have a evolution i want that requires a certian CAM amount. And even then, it's kinda hard to tell how much a stat increased from island training. I know ABI affects how much stats go up from training. Also I really am just not a fan of having to wait 30 minutes to an hour or so in game for training to finish and wish there was a way to speed up training.
I spent time having digimon develop those Tactician USB that boost EXP gain and it is absolutely worth it. Especially for getting PlatinumNumemon to speed up the grinding.
I'm on Chapter 7 now with two PlatNumas and then decided to get 2 PrinceMamemons for money grinding.

If you’re playing Hacker’s Memory without importing a Cybersleuth save, it would be painful as fuck, since Hacker’s Memory is a post-game Gaiden for Cybersleuth that allowed the import of a save from the first game. Sadly, Cybersleuth was delisted from PlayStation, so you’d have to hunt down a disc to play it and Hacker’s Memory won’t make a lot of sense story wise if you only play it.

There are items you can use on the farm to keep COM building for the mons you have training there, but they’re not too common or cheap.
