It's depressingly achievable to be successful in academia while being completely incompetent. I'd say at least the large majority get their status through relatively decent means, but I think the avg person would be shocked at how slimy it is, and how many know-nothing professional-grant-writers there are that take all the credit while doing next to nothing. At least in science I've seen this a couple times, and I'd argue even seeing it once is too many.

I wish people would stop fetishizing anyone who has a Ph.D. to their name, and conversely those people should also probably stopped fetishizing themselves so much.
Universities are run by complete losers who take sadistic pleasure in humiliating and degrading people who are naturally built for success and achievement. It's Revenge of the Nerds, except they interpret everyone but themselves as the Bullies.

Do you think once Peterson's brain deflates that they're going to downgrade him from PhD into a Master's degree?

Do you actually believe this? Do you see the world in terms of 80s teen movies?

Of all the PHD's I've ever met face to face, every last one has been lolcow material. Doctorate in film history ethnicity studies? Sure, make everyone call you Doctor! Seems like anyone who focuses on soft arts to the extent they make it their life and identity is super weird once you strip away the title.

I could be conspiratorial and refer you to what Lenin said - "You look for the person who will benefit and, uh... well... you know what I'm trying to say."

But I won't. The fact is he doesn't take Communism seriously enough to actually learn about it. It's bullshit, he thinks. I don't need to know anything about it because I can just point out how capitalism is better and that's that. But, as everyone saw, Zizek schooled him because he didn't do the work. The lesson, kids, is that you should always study.

Yet he collects art related to it and has read books that talk about evil communism and evil postmodernism, yet has not read any primary sources himself. I wonder, has he read the bible?

New update
Peterson florida.png

He looks okay in the photo. Apart from hideously putting boots in pants while it's not snowing. Still has the same dead expression as last time and still doesn't raise his arms.

"Hello, Florida" Early retirement for Peterson I assume.

I think I bought into the hype behind this guy, positive or negative, for like 2 weeks. It's remarkable how fast and hard he fell off after that great 2017-18 run where he was to many, either the prophet that would spread the light of the truth across a vast, SJWified darkness known as north american culture, or literally hitler except for women rather than jews.

I think he fell into that fatal trap that many unintentionally famous people do: Thinking that people want to hear from them on things outside their depth. Just stick to psychology, nobody wants to hear your take on climate change, politics etc because it's going to make you look stupid. It's like Adam Carolla when he pivoted from talking about being a broke carpenter and having a TV show featuring busty women on trampolines, to becoming a diet Rush Limbaugh.

But that's the problem. MANY people wanted to hear him speak on those topics and he was just so happy to oblige. The real surprise is for how long it took academia to notice him and produce hard objections without falling into autistic screeching. By that point it was too late and he had developed his following. Rigorous academics are in part to blame for not acting quick enough. Lesson learned for the future I hope. :optimistic:

Nope, not buying it. Since she spews so much bullshit it's most likely a photo made before Lobsterman was put into a coma.

It wasn't a big surprise, academics aren't fatally infected, but it's infected more than enough that it shouldn't be a surprise.

The fact that those "rigorous academics" don't act to counter the crazies is what made the crazies so confident in thinking they could tackle Peterson.

Notice how the daughter is helping hold/balance peterson here? Her hand is holding his arm like someone would an 80 year old, and it isn't a sign of affection either, as there's no reciprocation.
focus on the legs and it looks like, she's preveting him from faliing forward. One leg locked down straight, other just kinda placed down.
Though I think I may exaggerating it in my mind, by focusing on it so much.

I think a lot of PhD holders just get the idea that because they have a PhD in something, they're a super genius and everything they say holds more merit than anything a non-PhD holder says. So they're good to listen to on topics from their field, but become insufferable with anything else. Even Stephen Hawking said some pretty dumb fearmongering shit about politics shortly before he died. Neil Degrasse Tyson knows his shit about astrophysics and is fascinating to listen to on that subject, but he's notorious for otherwise being autistic about everything else.

is Peterson really the problem or is it mostly just his fanbase and daughter? if people didn't hold him up as some kind of revolutionary thinker I think it would be much less annoying

Absolutely. He promotes extreme individualism. Identity politics won't go away just because you close your eyes and say it's stupid. It's a classic game theory thing, not thinking in groups when other groups do will just lead to extinction.
