Amusingly enough, the Apostle Paul warned Christians in his writings not to become entangled in 'the empty philosophy of man' and be distracted from the simple truths of God's Word. Regardless of whether you agree with those truths or not, the fact remains that they're all pretty basic stuff that people like Peterson have turned into labyrinthine omnibuses that have very little practical value. I think he's more grounded than most and has a solid moral foundation, but 99% of what he says is extraneous waffle that can be summed up as 'have empathy, don't be a dick, work to improve yourself'. That's basically all you need.

I get the feeling that technology is quickly getting society to the point where there are no simple answers.

If I teach a person how to use machine tools, they can take those skills and make a gun. Am I empowering a person with education or am I undermining another person's security?

The arguments for abortion can be used to justify genetic engineering. Do you oppress women because we need fairness? Or do you let people design their children as a right?

A socialist who wants "a roof over every person's head" will come into conflict with an environmentalist who decides that the speckled wood cock needs a habitat.

Peterson doesn't have the answers to these questions. Just the old "left-right' spectrum is going to break apart and we will have a lot of new questions we would have to ask ourselves.

Most working class people never had any exposure to philosophy and it did them just fine. Hell, most people don't give a shit about philosophy.

Are you sure it's not just because he's telling a certain kind of person exactly what they want to hear?

That they don't have to live with a spiritual malaise because they feel empty and hollow inside? That maybe they have to find their own meaning in the world instead of waiting for someone to give it them?

That is the problem with educating people. They start asking question their teachers can't answer. Now it isn't good enough to go from high school to a factory job, you have to go to college to get the fancy book schoolin' or else you will get left behind.

In restrospective, we may end up saying that all the criticism in this thread boils down to the fact that, maybe, Jordan Peterson had the right ideas but the wrong means? Maybe, I dunno.

I can't really argue with this.

If I say "his timing was wrong" then that implies that his time would be after socialist policies were enacted and we found out they didn't solve the problem.

If I say that "his audience was a bit overzealous" then I'm blaming common people.

Personally I think that the "Greatest Generation" came back and said "Fuck tradition and philosophy. It didn't prevent two world wars and I have a house and car in the suburbs now. I don't need any fancy learning."

Now we have the baby boomers and the Gen X generations who had all the materialism and rebelled against everything only to end up bitter.

So millennials and zoomers are looking for something else and Peterson fills the void for now.

They might not have had any exposure to philosophy in a purely theoretical sense, but just 1-2 generations ago life for working class people (kids in particular) was very different. You could live comfortably off of one an industrial salary. Working class people from small towns usually had a lot of investment in their local communities. The kids might not have received an extensive theoretical education, but they were certainly taught values. Without the internet and social media the flow of information was much more limited. You'd compare yourself to your neighbors and not the "Instagram models" whose doctored selfies and 2 million followers make you feel like crap. A lot of single moms have to work multiple low-wage jobs to support their kids and thus leave most of the actual child-rearing to the TV and iPad.

Mikhaila managed to take that picture with her dad while not displaying her chest, ass or midriff. Truly a warrior.

Lol, It's almost like Mikhaila is reading our minds. We suspect Peterson for not having a photo and she shows us THAT photo (Duh!). Now I imagine she read your post and said, "nah, fam. This clothes thing in my instagram? Not for me."

(Bitch, please, she's asian and we are on to your photo tricks. She isn't even fat she's just pumping her stomach forward. No asian girl I've seen is just "stomach fat")

And the answer is to listen to a guy who tells you to clean your room and watch Pinocchio?

The single mom who's working multiple low-wage jobs to support her kids isn't looking for philosophy. She's too busy trying to make ends meet.

He's always bragged (in a very passive-aggressive way) about his 150 IQ. I wonder what's his IQ now that he fried his brain beyond repair, probably around two digits. :story:

And what of her teenage straight white son who lacks a grounding male presence in his life and has learned from MSM that straight white men are the Devil Incarnate? Why do you think we have such an upsurge of troonery in the west?

The teenage kid should take a hint from the 90's and learn from black rappers and basketballers.

Personally I'm okay with troonery in the west. I don't really care. And they can be cute. Net benefit for all.

If he's like your average teenage boy, he's probably too busy jacking off and thinking about pussy to care that he has no grounding male presence in his life.

And if this teenage boy is as much of a mindless drone as you seem to think he would be... well, what's it say if he takes to Peterson?

The average person simply does not care about philosophy. They generally don't feel empty inside. They aren't looking for guidance. The average person doesn't even think they need it.

If we are listing now on what point we disagree with JP, here is my $0.02.

I remember watching his video about intelligence. He is talking about CEOs how driven they are, how hard they work yada, yada, yada. He makes it sound as if exorbitant compensations for CEOs are simply well-deserved for their honest hard work and incredible perseverance.

Except, everybody knows we live in crony capitalism, and many CEOs get their compensation for mediocre or sub-par job. They do not posses some extraordinary skills. They just know right people and maybe have some luck.

In the era of financialization or as some call it "finance curse" he is selling pure fairy tales.

I'm not entirely the most familiar with this area of corporations, but what I've heard the modern CEO in most cases just exists to be a yes man for the 'board of directors'/investors and get big cash payments for essentially being a good boy and doing what the board asks, While also being a fall man if everything goes haywire.

The person I think Peterson speaks about would be the CEO of a company of less than 50 people (At that point calling yourself a CEO for the meme title is just silly), or in a big company what we'd call a field commander. From the people I've known in high corporate echelons, the one's who have the field commands would be the general managers or sometimes a VP. That guy gets worked to the bone and gets paid high but not ridiculously high. (He might afford a nice car and a second house and that's it. No private jets or Lambos.)

The "executive" branch gets all the juicy sweets.

My main gripe is that JP talks a lot but says very little. Most of it is just typical self help nonsense repackaged for men with no dads. When he isn't just flat out wrong, he will fall back on sound bites that sound smart but mean nothing.

Judging by his and his daughter's propensity for fad diets I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't into other wacko alternative health shit. Explains the experimental Russian clinic instead of tested and true methods to get off benzos.

What are the chances that they are going to russia a second time & put Lobsterman into another coma to "heal" his damaged brain.
They might as well try electroshock therapy or some kind of "highly" "experimental" "high-tech" brain "surgery" when they're there. Since, you know, they don't really have to worry about causing more damage.
They couldn't even dress him up properly for his latest picture so he doesn't look like a vegetable.

This will be my last post on the Peterson thread but I have to say this. Jordan called the former Premiere of Ontario Kathlene Wynne ''Our devouring Mother'' and ''The most dangerous woman in Canada''. Not because of her female Lesbian status but because of one primary fact that drew outrage among conservatives: She made university tuition for low income students free in Ontario since 2013. This has since been reversed with the current premier Doug Ford.

I just want to make a note that the neoliberal agenda is a about control. Social mobility is detested and actively being crippled by NeoCon's and Jordan is heavily supportive of this agenda. Maybe the Americans don't know who this man really is but most of us do in Canada.

Where did he criticize anything about tuition? As far as I know he criticized the fact that she made it possible to let the social justice tribunals to have the right to suspend jurisprudence.
