I think she is still suing him for defamation etc (as in I've not read otherwise). Fat boy was given the option to apologise/take down his tweets, but he left them up for a hell of a time, more or less giving a finger to everyone concerned.

He was a smart arse to Cameron, asking about his genitalia, accusing him/JCCF of a smear campaign - he even accused Cameron of not being qualified and,iirc, tried to get Cameron booted off the case(s). I feel Cameron put the fear of God into yaniv when he was told he couldn't drop the cases(s).

That's one reason why I hope these (reporter's) assault + Amy Hamm's case actually get to a proper court, and we have someone there like goinglikeelsie taking notes... it won't be the BCHRT that's for sure. It should be fun:)

I just hope the court backlog doesn't push the case back too far. I think after 18 months of delays the case can be thrown out due to Canadians having a right to expeditious justice. The supreme court ruled on this a few years back so the precedent is set. But the courts are now using livestreaming for some cases so they seem to be trying their best to clear the dockets.

Sadly, I think so. Lots of those cases are far more serious than JY's issues.... so it's a potential issue for the crown and many victims out there seeking justice for things like rape, assault, murder, etc.

I have no specific Canadian knowledge about this but it's probably a due process issue, i.e. right to speedy trial although Canada may call it something else. If there's an actual time bar on it, and they have a lot of cases, they're going to triage cases and focus on more serious crimes. This is easily the kind of semi-bullshit case that would get triaged or they'd offer some near nothing plea like a fine.
