Finally caught up with Part 9, just gonna throw out some early predictions:
- Hacca isn't the main villain, and will become a reluctant ally when he returns to the story. He and Jodio will have to cooperate to create a new lava rock.
- Meryl Mei will betray them. She literally grooms vulnerable teens into a life of crime, putting them into life-threatening situations for her own personal gain. It would be an actual godlike twist if she ends up being the main villain and Jodio and Hacca have to team up to steal the land back from her.

I think Hacca probably is not in conscious control of his Stand. Despite knowing of the existence of Stands, he's seemingly unaware that the mercenaries he hired are Stand users, which suggests he's incredibly inexperienced and not particularly savvy. Also, despite acting very impulsively, threatening them with a gun and firing off shots inside his own yacht, he never uses his Stand until literally the last possible second - had he used it earlier, he probably could've gotten his hands on the lava rock. The way that scene is drawn, it really made it feel like the Stand was a manifestation of his willpower, and that the moment he realized he was going to lose everything was the first time in his life that he locked in for real. I almost wonder if that was actually the first time he'd ever properly summoned his Stand and used its ability.

Honestly most of the fights during this part have been kind of mid, the Charmingman fight was the only one that really stood out. The Key West fight wasn't bad, but in any other Jojo part it would be a random fodder battle and not the climax of a major turning point in the story. Personally I'm so over Stands like Bag's Groove or Ningbo's bubble thing because Araki completely fails to make bodily harm a credible threat - you know they're gonna be inexplicably patched up before the next arc anyways regardless of how much damage they sustain, so there's just zero tension in those fights.

I hate reading monthly so I'll probably finish the current arc then drop off for another 2-3 years until "Part 2" is complete.

@Gar For Archer

Honestly I am kinda with you on Meryl Mei possibly being a villain but recent chapters made me buy into Howler being the villain. But will honestly be fine with either one being the main villain cause both really have that factor that makes them both worthy for that title from Meryl's high IQ and manipulation tactics to how Howler having a lot of parallels to Pucci and being in a unique position from going to be a scumbag nepo baby to an actual threat with how he lost everything in Act 1.

Guess we're back to cours, honestly I'm fine with that since it will at least be weekly and we can get breaks for them to at least work on the animation.

Not to mention, giving more time so they will never catch up to the manga

Tbf Jojolands being about Hacca getting a villainous character arc as the thematic antagonist compared to Jodio who much like Giorno was born getting shit done is a pretty cool answer to a relatively static protagonist. I don't disagree with a Meryl Mei betrayal, it could be like in SBR where Johnny could beat one antagonist but not the other.

I do not mind the betrayal theory too much but it better come with good motivation/twist/stand.

I think it's pretty interesting how Howler got his stand in the first place, since people who tend to not have control of their non-automatic stands, tend to get them from an outside source. I don't know what this would be, but Howler's journal mentioning a god residing in lava made me think of Pele. A Hawaian god who lives inside the lava of Kilauea. I've heard similar theories about Pele being a Milagro Man-esq presence inside the earth that's latched onto the Howler family and is responsible for Howler's stand.

The interesting thing with Pucci and Howler, is that Jodio also has a lot of Pucci-like moments when his personality shows through.
