Republican Sen. John McCain, an internationally renowned Vietnam War hero who served for 30 years in the Senate representing Arizona, died Saturday due to complications stemming from brain cancer.

His office said in a statement that his wife Cindy McCain and their family were alongside him when he died.

"At his death, he had served the United States of America faithfully for sixty years," his office said.

McCain, 81, was a part of many of the past three decades' most significant political moments. He was the 2008 Republican presidential nominee in a contest he lost to President Barack Obama. He also sought the presidency in 2000, mounting a primary campaign against President George W. Bush.

A graduate of the Naval Academy, the Arizona Republican followed both his father and grandfather, who were four-star admirals, into the US Navy, where he carried out airstrike missions.

I feel bad for his family, it sucks to see a loved one die of cancer, but he didn't see a war that he didn't like. The silver lining here is that he isn't agitating for jingoistic foreign policies anymore.

4) Tungsten (the other material used in KE rounds instead of DU) is toxic as fuck and a likely carcinogen also.

My mom lasted about a week after she went off treatment and returned home. Usually it's palliative care until you die.
 
Considering the time of the announcement I wouldn't be surprised if John McCain secretly went off treatment days before but didn't let the media know until a day ago.
Who knows.

The original article doesn't mention it but John McCain did indeed go with palliative care. Ending treatment because there's nothing else the doctors can do and choosing to do the palliative care to die comfortably. It fits the timeline of the kind of Cancer he had too. You don't live long when it's aggressive like that.

I've not heard the actual recordings of his "betrayal" until just now.

Can practically hear the gun to his head through the mic lol
