President Trump has an unexpected defender: Jimmy Carter.

“I think the media have been harder on Trump than any other president certainly that I’ve known about,” Carter told New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd. "I think they feel free to claim that Trump is mentally deranged and everything else without hesitation.”

Carter also defended Trump against claims that the current president's aggressive style is souring U.S. relations with the world. “Well, he might be escalating it but I think that precedes Trump,” he told the Times. “The United States has been the dominant character in the whole world and now we’re not anymore. And we’re not going to be. Russia’s coming back and India and China are coming forward.”

Perhaps Carter is seeking to placate Trump as part of a job interview: The 93-year-old former president said he is willing to undertake a diplomatic mission to North Korea to discuss its nuclear weapons program.

Carter told the Times he had discussed the North Korea issue with H.R. McMaster, Trump's national security adviser.

“I told him that I was available if they ever need me,” Carter said.

While Carter's comments about the media might please Trump, an ex-presidential couple might not be too happy with the Times interview: Bill Clinton and former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

"We voted for (Bernie) Sanders" in the primary, Carter said.

Here's another article of the matter.

At 93, Jimmy Carter is cutting loose.

The former president sat down with The New York Times recently and chatted about all kinds of subjects. The Times decided to play up the fact that Carter — one of the worst presidents in U.S. history — would love to go over to North Korea as an envoy.

But the Times is steadily proving how out of touch it is, and how it no longer seems to actually "get" what real news is.

Here are some major highlights from the interview:

1. The Russians didn't steal the 2016 election.

Carter was asked "Did the Russians purloin the election from Hillary?"

"I don’t think there’s any evidence that what the Russians did changed enough votes — or any votes," Carter said.

So the hard-left former president doesn't think the Russians stole the election? Take note, Capitol Hill Democrats.

2. We didn't vote for Hillary.

Carter and his wife, Roselyn, disagreed on the Russia question. In the interview, she "looked over archly [and said] 'They obviously did'" purloin the election.

“Rosie and I have a difference of opinion on that,” Carter said.

Rosalynn then said, “The drip-drip-drip about Hillary.”

Which prompted Carter to note that during the primary, they didn't vote for Hillary Clinton. "We voted for Sanders.”

3. Obama fell far short of his promises.

Barack Obama whooshed into office on pledges of delivering "hope and change" to the country, spilt by partisan politics.

He didn't. In fact, he made it worse.

"He made some very wonderful statements, in my opinion, when he first got in office, and then he reneged on that," he said about Obama's action on the Middle East.

4. Media "harder on Trump than any president."

A recent Harvard study showed that 93% of new coverage about President Trump is negative.

But here's another shocker: Carter defended Trump.

"I think the media have been harder on Trump than any other president certainly that I've known about," Carter said. "I think they feel free to claim that Trump is mentally deranged and everything else without hesitation."

5. NFL players should "stand during the American anthem."

Carter, who joined the other four living ex-presidents on Saturday for a hurricane fundraiser, put his hand on his heart when the national anthem played — and he has a strong opinion about what NFL players should do, too.

"I think they ought to find a different way to object, to demonstrate," he said. " I would rather see all the players stand during the American anthem."

Note: if you are a leftist and Jimmy fucking Carter is telling you to lol calm down because you've gone too vitriolic and insane, you should seriously listen.

Jimmy Carter is no stranger to incredibly hostile press coverage himself.

Incidentally, this is exactly the kind of pointless, gratuitous insult Carter was talking about.

Agreed, Jimmy Carter got shit in 76 for admitting he gets boners to hot women to Playboy

So, apparently, not voting for Hillary is equal to high treason for the Daily Wire?
If this attitude of democrat supporters doesn't change asap, they can kiss their chances of winning in 2020 right goodbye, no matter how much Trump will fuck up till then.

Edit: Yeah, I'm an idiot. See below, why.

Bitch, the Daily Wire is right wing as fuck. It's run by Ben Shapiro who has been hounded off liberal college campuses and had his speeches shut down by antifa.

Whoops. Sorry, not that familiar with american news outlets, so that mistake is rather idiotic. I thought this was one of those mocking/accusing articles we've seen a hundred times from different news outlets. Mea Culpa.

Jimmy Carter is a great person in nearly every sense of the word, just not a great politician.
The two are mutually exclusive. And he’s right about damn near everything he said in the interview. They can say what they want about his presidency but I think fewer people will celebrate his death than other modern presidents.

He even cleaned up a malfunctioning nuclear reactor back in the 1950's, exposing himself to thousand of times the safe level of radiation in order to prevent the leakage.

This is why he has an aircraft carrier named after him iirc.

And yes, he was a sadly ineffectual President who literally only got elected because Gerald Ford (also a less than good President) took the ballsy and necessary step of falling on his sword by pardoning Nixon to move on past a national disgrace.

ETA: it's actually a submarine, not an aircraft carrier.

Ford probably still would have won but of course he did the final blow to himself with "Their is no Soviet Domination of Eastern Europe and their never will be under a Ford administration"

I’m half expecting threadworthy salt from this. Two things SJWs on the internet really hate are left leaning folk who still disagree with them and the elderly. And we’ve seen how well the media handles being called out for things they’re absolutely doing.

Jimmy Carter is an alright guy with me. I don't think he gives any fucks anymore, and that's great.

Being 93 is cool. You can pretty much do or say whatever and be like "What are you gonna do, kill me? Ruin my life? You're a little late for that, bitch."

The thing I like best about Jimmy Carter is that he is a master carpenter. This means that he could find a job if he weren't a politician. I've never thought that to be true of the vast majority of presidential candidates. I always got the feeling that they're in politics because you can't trust them to run a feed store.

There was Abraham Lincoln, though, or as I like to call him, Brobraham Lincoln. He could split railroad rails. With his DICK.

Yeah, actually some of my earliest memories involve adults mocking Carter for being a peanut farmer.

Like that is the worst thing a person can be? Oh noes, he won't starve and in a blizzard emergency he will be prepared!

Yeah, that’s the hilarious drawback to the tactic of putting a negative spin on everything about your opponent, sometimes it makes the attacker look really fucking stupid.

And now we're in a situation where the most liberal President in American history is saying bitches, quit being so mean to Trump. A 93 year old man saying bitches, lol calm down.
