'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

All this goes to show how REAL privilege works. Despite all the current year narrative, actual privilege comes from money and to some degree, fame. Fame is beneficial if it connects you to people with money or in positions of power, like this cocksucker and his various ties to politicians.

Borrowing from Chris Rock, if Jussie Smollett wasn't wealthy and connected, he wouldn't even be Jussie Smollett. He would be Justin the crime hoaxing janitor, and he would be in jail.
 
This kind of blatant interference from the powers that be is what caused Weimar Germany to develop militia death squads. The moment the public at large knows the government can't be trusted to deliver justice to their protected classes, they will begin to take it into their own hands.
 
Well, at least when he staggers out of an alley claiming to have been beaten up by unknown, maga hat wearing dudes shouting about maga country, which I expect he will at some in a like a week, it's slightly more possible that it was actually real this time.

Shit, the left could have even vilified the guy by their own terms. "Rich dilettante fucks over poor, hard working POC nurses in scam."

...and he did all this shit because he couldn’t just throw a tantrum on set over his paycheck. He just had to pull all this off.

It’s like the adult version of a bratty teen crying over her spanking new Mercedes not being the color she wanted so she “accidentally” scratches it the next day.

Disney acquires Fox. Fox produces Empire. Disney wouldn't want one of their newly acquired brands to have their highest visible star be a real criminal.
Suddenly Smollett is let off and given head pats and Empire welcomes him back. ?

You might be on to something, however would they welcomes him back so soon? They might wait 1 or 2 years to let the dust settling unless karma decided to bite back like it did with O.J. Simpson back in 2007. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O._J._Simpson_robbery_case
