'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

Wasn't this an episode of Law & Order SVU where a Muslim girl gets raped by other Muslims but made up an outlandish story that it was white rednecks who did it instead in Central Park yelling slurs at her?

Soon enough, "Law and Order: SVU did it" will join "the Simpsons did it" as an annoying and pointless reminder that both shows have been on way too long.
 
Honestly, the guy deserves it for having a name as stupid as "Jussie". It sounds like those stupid names that ultra-homos make up for their buttholes like "bussy".

This shit has to be a trick/drug pick up gone wrong - it's so comically over the top that it sounds like something that Brianna Wu would claim happened to him. I mean, how in the hell can two guys carrying nooses, bottles of bleach/gasoline/whatever and MAGA hats in a busy place in like Chicago not get noticed at 2 am and manage to walk around without getting beaten into a fine paste? Much less give two shits about some second banana on a show that Trump supporters have zero awareness about? If they're going to risk major jail time, they would go after someone more prominent, like Tyler Perry or Serena Williams.

Calling it now, it's either a hoax, or the attackers weren't white. Other than the police saying the races and political views of the suspects are unknown, as others have mentioned your typical racist Trump supporting strawman would have no idea who this guy is since I doubt they watch Empire. On the other hand homophobia is a huge problem in the black community, a decent chunk of which probably watches the show he's on so I could see some homophobic black dudes doing this. Plus most crime happens within the same racial group anyway.

Whatever the truth may be, unless it somehow does end up being a lefty strawman of a Trump supporter come to life, I highly doubt lefty rags are gonna give it anywhere near as much attention as when they first broke the story.

Chicago Police Department Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said police "continue to seek any available evidence/video to identify possible offenders in [the Jussie Smollett] case."

"Thus far we have not found anything to be able put out a description," Guglielmi tweeted from a verified account.

It's most likely that he tried to pick some dudes up or buy some drugs, and it went wrong. Not wanting to admit that he got mugged on the hunt for nose candy or strange dick, he spun this story instead.

- at 2am outside a Subways Shop
- in Chicago
- while carrying Bleach and a Noose
- on not simply a Cold night, but quite literally the coldest fucking night in Chicago in recorded history. Minus fucking 60 with wind chill. So cold spit freezes in the air before it hits the pavement.

My bet is dude’s Grinder date went horribly wrong. The tranny hookers he ordered turned out to be lesbian tranny hookers.
 
so chicago pd has the rope and claim to be examining it, so the noose allegations could be true. however, he also claimed to be alone and witnesses have yet to be found.

Basically one of the safest streets, on the safest block, in the entire city. Exactly where two masked, noose-carrying racists peckerwoods would go to stalk their prey.
