'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

The last going-on two decades of Zoe Quinn’s life has been marred by increasingly shitty behavior, all of which has been exhaustively and publicly documented by the internet.

She continues to be offered work in media.

There is no limit to what harmful, antisocial behavior will be accepted by certain groups and industries so long as the perpetrator consistently espouses the correct sociopolitical values in public.

Zoe gets hired in woke projects for basically just-above-foodstamps type of compensation.
I don't think some narc like Jussie would accept a "job" that did not allow him to live the lifestyle of a jet-setter.
And the thought of him doing some kind of menial manual work, the kind of work that felons usually are restricted to ... well it would be below his narc dignity.

Maybe someone rich and woke will take him in and provide for him? Unlikely I think since he is so toxic right now that no one with a brain will want to be associated with him or have his toxicity rub off on them. Remember, since the event he has had ZERO work. No one has reached out to him with some handouts or work. No one has even offered him a role in anything, no matter how small the role, so that tells me that everyone in Hollywood have distanced themselves from him and no one wants to be seen as associating with him. No one has been willing to give him any kind of work in the last 3 years. This will not change just because he now is an actual Felon.
I think he will try to do a Kapernick but I doubt that would work. The times are different now and Kapernick was a poor but famous sportsman that was at the right place at the right time to take advantage of a political movement.
Jussie is none of that, he is now just an infamous felon that is just a target for ridicule. You are never going to see Nike pay millions of dollars to Jussie to have his face associated with their brand.

Exactly. Bussy is poison, even in the most liberal parts of Hollywood. Sure, some celebrities and big-wigs will Tweet about how JUSSIE DINDU NUTHIN, but none of them are actually sticking their necks out for him and offering him work because they know he is a lying hoaxer and don't want to get hit by the splash back that would happen if they did hire him and the truth got out somehow.

As someone pointed out, he'll end up like Zoe Quinn - another hoaxer that outlived their usefulness as a mouthpiece and now lives on any crumbs tossed their way.

Jussie Smollett Believes He Was Sent To Jail Because He Was Black​


Three years after committing a hate crime hoax, Jussie Smollett was sentenced to 150 days in prison, NBC reported. Smollett, who was convicted of five counts of felony disorderly conduct in December 2021, allegedly believes he received the sentence not because he is guilty but because he is Black. According to TMZ, sources close to Smollett said he expected to be sentenced to jail time but expected to receive a harsher sentence than other people who have been convicted of a non-violent crime because he’s Black. He reportedly also felt the judge was hostile towards him.

“You’re just a charlatan pretending to be a victim of a hate crime,” Cook County Circuit Judge James Linn told Smollett during sentencing on March 11.

Besides his 150 days in prison, he was also sentenced to 30 months probation and has to pay $130,160 in restitution in on top of a $25,000 fine.

At his sentencing, he continued to claim he is innocent and bizarrely shouted that he was not suicidal and warned everyone that if something happened to him while in custody, then it was at the hands of someone else.

“If I did this, then it means that I shoved my fist in the fears of black Americans in this country for over 400 years and the fears of the LGBTQ community,” Smollett shouted in the courtroom. “Your honor, I respect you and I respect your decision, but I did not do this and I am not suicidal. If anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself, and you must all know that.”

Smollett will be serving his sentence at the Cook County Jail in Chicago and began his sentence in protective custody.

“Mr. Smollett is being housed in his own cell, which is monitored by security cameras in the cell and by an officer wearing a body-worn camera who is stationed at the entrance of the cell to ensure that Mr. Smollett is under direct observation at all times,” the Cook County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement according to the New York Post.

Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot released a statement in favor of the former Empire star’s sentence and saying that she hopes people fully understand the consequences of making false reports about crimes.

“The criminal conviction of Jussie Smollett by a jury of his peers and today’s sentencing should send a clear message to everyone in the City of Chicago that false claims and allegations will not be tolerated,” Lightfoot said in a statement. “The malicious and wholly fabricated claim made by Mr. Smollett resulted in over 1500 hours of police work that cost the City over $130,000 in police overtime,” she went on. “The City feels vindicated in today’s ruling that he is being held accountable and that we will appropriately receive restitution for his actions.”

I for one am looking forward to the Netflix adaptation of Jussie's 'Orange is the New Black' experience coming out in a few years.

I think it would be hilarious if he did the exact same thing in jail. Hire a couple of black prisoners to rough him up, and then claim there were these white MAGA chuds in their MAGA hats who did it. About as believeable as the white supremacists out lynching in Chicago during a blizzard, so yeah, in ClownWorld, it's pretty much guaranteed he'll do it.

All of them jumped to his aid and got burned hard, and he's been 100% unapologetic to them or anyone else. That isn't something they'll forget or forgive. He's lifetime blacklisted from showbiz, mark it down. He was an infinitely replaceable C-list guy to begin with, and he torched a whole bunch of the A-list.

If he doesn't kill himself in prison, he'll probably kill himself in obscurity after his release as he slowly realizes his former cushy semi-famous lifestyle is never, ever coming back.

Convicted felons get all those back as soon as they're released under Illinois law; Fed law defers to state law of where the felony conviction arises regarding gun rights.

Also a majority of countries look at actual sentence to determine inadmissiblity as the concept of 'felonies' and 'misdemeanors' don't exist, so a 4 month sentence for a non-violent offense is nothing as far as most countries are concerned.

Compared to a majority of countries in the world, the US's immigration system's treatment of criminal convictions is absolutely extreme in its strictness as you could be denied entry for a criminal conviction for an act that's not even a crime in the U.S. where no jailtime was given solely on the basis of it being a criminal conviction.

For example I'm pretty sure Count Dankula could be denied entry to the US due to his hate speech conviction eventhough he was only fined.

No, but there's all sorts of additional penalties and sentence additions that you can get nailed with as summary punishments in prison, no need for a trial. I'd say the odds of his 150 day stay becoming 180 are non-zero.

Also, that extremely long parole period won't do him any favors, as fucking up just once can get it revoked and you go back to jail/prison to serve out the remainder..... that's the part I don't see him being able to complete without issue, as the instant he goes free he's going to start agitating for himself in ways that probably aren't allowed under the agreement.

Now, if he goes back for it is more a function of how much shit his PO is willing to put up with and how much they feel like taking on cancel culture for one pampered little peanut-headed celebrity con..... so I don't foresee them yanking it unless he gets a total hard-ass, but I will say, with 100% conviction at this point, he WILL fuck up his parole. Multiple times.
 
I've been seeing a lot of articles recently pleading for Juicy's release, and that the family is receiving death threats, which imo are about as real as Juicy's lynching. Even that scumbag Kim Foxx crawled out of whatever miserable hole she's been hiding in to say the trial was a "kangaroo court." It's almost like there's a concerted effort to not hold this faggot accountable with even the minimal slap on the wrist he received
