'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

I don't think there's any evidence they can use to get him for that. Smollett being the genius he is has probably done something miraculous like left DNA samples for himself somewhere on the thing but since no police time was wasted on the letter since it was separate from the crime that was reported to the police and it's not played any significant role aside from giving Kiwis more fodder I don't think anyone's going to waste their time on it. Much as we'd all like to see that confirmed to be him too it seems unlikely anyone cares enough to investigate.

But it fits in with Jussie. Wasn't this some kind of letter with letters cut out of a newspaper and glued to a piece of paper?
Shit that only happens in bad cop-shows from the 70s but never in real world?
I bet that IF anyone would investigate they would find his dna and fingerprints all over the place. Including his fingerprints in the glue under the letters.
And they would likely find the magazines with the missing letters in his bookshelf. That would match how clowned everything Jussie has been doing so far.

But no one cares. The people that could file charges might be the production company he showed it to when trying to blackmail them for better pay? But they probably don;t want to get involved any more and just want to pretend that Jussie does not exist and they will never have to have any interactions with or about him, ever.

So, no. He was never charged, though I do remember a fancy officer-style cop at a press conference saying that he sent himself the letter. They probably just didn't have the sort of slam dunk evidence that would be needed to nail him on it. Though, I think they found the magazines and locktite glue used to make the letter at the Osindoro bro's apartment. Also, the letter had crushed up aspirin in it, for bonus "fake anthrax" fuckery.

One of the "L" s. In the letter is clearly from a loctite package.... I remember that part when a pic of it leaked out.
 
Well, looks like Juicy is at it again. He wants a new trial. He was found guilty and is awaiting sentencing. So he is
filing this BEFORE he is even sentenced or served a single day.

I hope this is yet another instance of him just digging his hole deeper and deeper because he has yet to have a trace of remorse of humility. He has already proven himself to be an utter fool and failure on a global scale. a He is arrogant and ignorant enough to never change or learn.

His sentencing date is March 10. He is getting desperate as the date looms near. This must be a last ditch effort to try anything to disrupt the inevitable sentencing and the possibility of jail. I guess ole gay tupac aint so tough after all,lol.

Another trial could be amusing though. Jussie is stupid enough to push for a new trial and to slip up and talk his way into more charges or more public ridicule. I'd love for him to get on the stand and fuck up and admit he sent that letter to himself and get some federal charges.

Somewhat off topic but interesting nevertheless...
He is stupid enough to keep trying but there is something he needs to consider. A nasty remorseless thot named Laura Hall took part in a aftermath of a gruesome murder of Jennifer Cave. Laura was sentenced to only 5 years, but threw a fit and appealed and received a new sentencing. In one of the best moments ever, she was resentenced and got 10 years. She rolled the dice and ending up doubling her sentence. May Jussie have all of the luck of laura hall.
 
Jussie Smollett is no O.J. Simpson, that‘s for sure. I don’t remember him or Johnnie Cochran being this whiny, even when Cochran wasn’t trying that hard when it came to race-baiting the jury.

He’s also nothing approaching an American hero like OJ was at the time of his trial. Jussie is an effete Literal Who with a name that sounds like yet another Tumblr-spawned terminology for a human orifice jury-rigged to receive a penis.

Given how stupid he's been throughout this whole affair, he probably thinks that if he can get the appeal through before then, it somehow invalidates the sentence or something....

He's probably pretty fuzzy on the details of HOW, but he just KNOWS that's the way it works, that's what happens on TV!

He likely only sees the world through tropes and cliche's , and some kind of last minute "legal loophole" that sets the bad guy in the cop drama free even though he was guilty as sin is BOUND to work out for him (in his own mind) if he just files a mess of paperwork.

He's seeing all these ridiculous judgements coming out in the Floyd case, the Aubrey case and the Wright case and he thinks things might be turning around for him. What he's forgotten is that each of those cases involved the kind of niggers Americans actually like, dead niggers.

Dude may have maybe gotten away with it if he had come clean early. As soon as it was clear his lies didn't cut it, he could have played a dumb guy taking opportunity to grow and so maybe looked positive enough be forgiven. He is a black gay guy, the liberal media has every reason to make him look good for narrative.

I was high and that made it look like a good idea at time. I should have owned up immediately after sobering up but I was scared. Scared of the legal consequences, scared of the media circus, and so in that fear I let the lies become a bigger and more destructive. Hoping it all would just disappear. I acted like a little kid but I'm taking responsibility now and I hope that you all can forgive me and learn from my mistakes.

Unfortunately that boat has sailed and returned with spices likes you never seen before. Now it would mean admitting doing crimes, multiple times and being calculated about it. He staged the crime, he rehearsed the staging, he lied to cops, he lied very publicly in personal interviews, he lied under oath, he tried get perfectly innocent people arrested (he was completely comfortable to go identify his attackers until he found out that cops had arrested his accomplices), he was involved with super clear case of corruption and other less than upstanding aspects of his coverage. There is simply too much package this point for the truth. Doubling down and playing dumb is his only real choice especially in legal sense. That allows the slim chance of getting a lenient jury or judge, or that his legal team can find a technicality that lets him off the hook. Even socially he's better off keeping his ridiculous tale going because most people are too pissed off to forgive and those that still believe or pretend to believe would be humiliated.

Never watched Empire, and only heard of it because of the Smollett case, but that clip is hilarious. Of course the gay character literally has to have a scene where he's called a "little homo" in a rap battle, and responds by singing "IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'MMMMMM GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".

If that clip is indicative of the general quality of the show, no wonder it was getting cancelled.

Have you in your entire life even been called a slur related to your Protected Class, in public and at volume with attention already on you and, if so, was your chosen response to simply own the slur rather than literally any other option?

I ask because though I am not one, I cannot imagine the knee-jerk response to being called a limp-waisted cocksucker to simply be “ya lol so wut”.

If he had the good judgement to do something like that, he would have had the good judgement not to stage a fake hate crime that was so cartoonishly unbelievable in the first place. And yet here we are.
